When will the R&B/Hip Hop trend end?
« on: November 08, 2005, 11:28:14 AM »
Like it or not (and I certainly DON'T), Urban music has dominated the music scene in recent years. Is there any light at the end of the tunnel? Any music involving guitars is seen as 'gay' by much of the mainstream  :pissed: .

Or maybe the South of England is just so chavvy

Yeah, I feel the same.

All Urban seems to be to me is an excuse to chant in a mock-west indies accent about hoes/cap in yo ass/biatches/lowriders/booty.  And most of the so called "artists" seem to orginate in somewhere like Middlesex where there is obviously a huge gang problem in the streets and blinged up Caddy Escalades are ten a penny.

As for R&B, don't get me started...  Simply take four late teen girls/blokes, give them "attitude" and clean up the singing in a recording studio to make them sound vaguely in key.  Who cares if they have any talent, as long as they can sneer/pout at a camera on command.

Personally, I miss the days of rave and house music, which I believe was recieved by anyone over the age of 21 with derision and ridicule during the late 1980s.  Perhaps I should dust off my old Paisley "raver" top, baggy Pepe jeans, Adidas trainers and the copious amounts of wet-look gel I used to tame my wild barnet.

Acccccciiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeed!

NEVER!!!! Bwahahahahahaaaa.....cough cough. :-)

i have listened to hip-hop/rap since it's inception in the 80's. i prefer the older material but sometimes a good nugget or two comes out of the new stuff.
The only stupid question is a question not asked.

Whenever it happens it will be far too overdue

The *worst* genre of music in existance. Period. Come the revolution, I'm going to execute everybody who makes it or listens to it and process them into dog food.

For the 'artists' especially, feeding malnourished neglected animals in shelters will most likely be their first (and last) ever useful contribution to society

There is competition on that front, German "Uhmp-Pah" brass bands, yodelling and Country & Western all spring to mind.

Actually, I shouldn't say that.  Somewhere in Middlesex, a spotty nerd called Gavin (street handle - "The Massive G") will use all the above to influence his new Urban/ R&B crossover album entitled "Yo biatch, check mah spinners on mah 'slade befowah I blowah cap in yo ass".

No doubt, several record producer types will rush to sign him and ensure that his sounds are played non-stop on all the commercial radio stations.

That's OK, I believe in providing several different flavours of dog food. After all, they might not all like the R&B one...

It will be around until someone comes up with a new genre of music that the fashion industry can lock on to... oh for the days of the New Romantics... ;-)

Can you include opera singers too please ?
I'm sure you'll be able to keep Battersea Dogs Home going for a year on Pavarotti alone.
On schedule, and suing
