Toaster Flyer I almost won :-(.
« on: October 15, 2005, 05:18:54 AM »
I won this auction fair and square and paid for it instantly. The seller has changed the shipping cost to $55.00 instead of the $5.00 stated in the auction.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8705573797&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

I am negotiating a refund, but it sounds fishy. So far I am out $261.00 for nothing. I am just about through with eBay totally this time:madashell:

Thanks for letting me vent!

Jeff

Turn him into Ebay, for sure, he listed the shipping at $5, it's his responsibility to verify that his listing is correct. I mean geeze, he had a whole week to realize it said $5.

An auction is a contract... doesn't it say that all over the freaking site? ;-)

You did inform the ebay seller that he/she made an error on their auction listing first, right?

Apparently it is allowed now to change the shipping after having won the auction, that is legal now on ebay.

If the buyer lives in another country than the ones that are listed, then yes. If I buy something on Ebay Germany and no other country than Germany is listed, then the seller is allowed to raise shipping costs if the buyer lives outside Germany, like me in Belgium. But on the auction that Jeff won is clearly written that shipping costs to the USA are 5 USD and for worldwide shipping it´s also 5 USD ... as far as I see it the seller has not legal base to raise his shipping costs  :-)

I would have just paid the $45 more! You got those two cards for a VERY low price. With shipping it still comes to less then half of what they go for most of the time. I've seen a Toaster 4000 alone sell for $400.

I second that. I've never seen a set up toaster flyer cards go for that low. That same seller had them at a "by it now" last week for $600 USD

Check this out, he made the SAME mistake in all 5 of these auctions?

Sure it's probably worth the extra money, but I am leary about sending another $50.00 to this guy. What do you think?

Mistakes are mistakes.  but if nothing bad happens or a big deal isn't made then it isn't a learning experience.  The dude said $5 and that is what it should cost..

BTW, from where to where is it going?  If in side US, that I din't see it costing that much.  I sent  fully loaded A1200 Tower UPS and it only cost $35...

Jeff, it does sound a little strange to me that the items are listed as being located in Japan with a shipping cost of $5 to the USA, but I think you won the items at a great discount price and if you really wanted them should have paid the extra $50 and been happy.  If you paid through Paypal on eBay you should have been somewhat protected from losing your money if the auction was a total scam.

I have bought a lot of Amiga stuff on eBay and only been burned a few times, getting broken items.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

He refunded and I'll just find someone closer in the US. Everyone is happy :-).  I think he really wanted more money anyway, so this offered him a way out also. We both learned something from it.
