Hey Yo!

So, just an offbeat question here: Is the Picasso IV faster than AGA (found in the A1200 and A4000)?

Regards,
A1200D / AGA / B1260 / 64MB RAM / KS 3.1 / AOS 3.9 / 4GB HD

that's an yes and no question. Yes, it is faster becuase of faster graphics-processor/memory and many other things. No, it is not faster when you look at some of the classic games which use the "special" features the amiga chipset offers.

But in a day to day use a graphics card is faster.

I've noticed little practical speed difference on an A4000 in AGA vs. PIV Cgfx screenmodes that are limited to say 320x200 (i.e. you can run Quake, Doom, etc. at about the same speed, slight edge to PIV because no chunky-planar conversion needed).  The real edge is in Workbench displays where the PIV gives you a nice crisp large 1024x768 flicker free display (I prefer 800x600 on my 17" monitor though..easier on the eyes).

I bought a Cybervision64 card and use that in conjunction with a C=2620 card.  It saved a little $$ and works just fine.  Originally I also was looking for the Picasso IV but could not cough up the dough.  Doh !

i bought my picasso IV from ebay ages ago i paid soemthing like 140 quid for it, it is a very popular gfx card,i think it is down to the fact it has a scandoubler and flickerfixer so its a good all in one package. i have a feeling that the prices for amiga stuff will never go down.. might even go up as more and more people get back into classic amigas, so buybuybuy! while u can!! :)

Reading this thread, made me smile about the price I paid for my PIV some months ago (~130 euros) from a local seller.

Anyway, I was looking at a Paloma module, ended up to 100 euros! (wouldnt give that much...) (tahoe should know, from the same seller he missed the auction) ;-)
Anyway is the only way
