Pegasos G4

I went to a well known online Amiga shop and I saw that there is a 1Ghz G4 module for Pegasos. Can anyone inform me if that module really exists and if it is available please? (can I actually buy right now the system below?)


I made this conf to see how much will it cost. I await for AmigaOS and I would really want to see it running also in Pegasos so that I could have more options.

Pegasos board with CPU module incl. MorphOS CD.

Configuration:

Midi tower 6054L-C9 silver with 300 W power supply.
PPC CPU: G4 1 GHz
Harddisk AT/IDE 3.5",30 GB Exelstor 5400U
256 MB PC133 ECC Registered Buffered
64 MB ATI Radeon 7500 LE TV-Out
LG CED 8481B 48x/24x/48x silver
Floppy drive 3.5" HD, TEAC FDD 1.44 MB, beige
Neolec Wheel Optical mouse PS/2 and USB

I really hope that this price 1179.30 EYPO is with the VAT. I hate the sites that are trying to deceit us by not placing the VAT. (like there is a chance that their average client could buy it without VAT)

Yes, this module is (hopefully) real because I ordered and already paid for it when I bought my Pegasos :-D

I checked with my dealer today, but he hasn't got it yet.
I don't know when it will arrive.

About your desired system:

CD-Rewriter 40/16/48
Floppy (I believe it doesn't work...yet)
Cherry cordless keyboard and mouse
Set of boxes (inbuild soundcard)
DVD-ROM

As you see I've got almost the same configuration as you want. :-D

I paid 1500 Euro's for it.

I would have thought that if this was available then we'd have heard from Gensei.  I'm afraid until you hear an offical release , don't trust what amiga dealers say.  Some have a habit of trying to sell products which aren't yet available. :-(

And for this I paid 190 Euro's more than for the coupon I bought last year for AmigaOne/OS4 (I forgot if the discount was for AOne or for OS4 :-?)

Have you paid for the dealer or Genesi? To the best of my knowledge G4 modules are not yet available. Promised to be available soon, but that doesn't change the fact that ATM they are not yet available.

I don't think that the G4 CPU module is available quite yet. And I am sure that no one will miss it when it becomes available!  :-D

Did you buy it as a complete prebuilt system or did you buy it seperately?

The module doesn't exist. Don't be fooled into placing a pre-order for something that won't even exist for many months.

BTW, I wonder if that will have a CPU fan? In that case I don't think I will be interested. I like silent computers and my Pegasos setup is extremely silent, virtually mute. And to be honest, the G3 @ 600MHz is more than enough for everything I do. It flies! If you are rendering/raytracing complex 3D animations (and such things) you will propably want as much CPU power as possible, but I really think that most "normal" people will be quite satisfied with the G3  thanks to the lean Amiga envireonment!

I'm actually quite dissapointed with how noisey my G4 eMac is compared to the old G3 iMacs.  Hopefully PPCs will get cooler again and won't need fans.

Exactly! In the wintel world there is this (as we all know) strange obsession about MHz ratings. And of course you would need a fast system to run a totally bloated OS as the WindowsXP really is.

Before I bought my Pegasos I hadn't come anywhere near the Amiga platform for a while. I was kind of used to the wintel way of thinking and I thought "well, it's a pity that the only option is a G3 @ 600MHz, that won't get me anywhere". But to tell the truth I don't really think I would notice any big differences between my current setup and a G4 at twice that MHz ratio. Not in the way I use computers anyway. The system can't more than fly. And it flies allready!

Of course, if I were heavily into 3D rendering or other heavy tasks, it would make a difference. but since I am more of a "normal" user it doesn't!

When it comes to games I believe that the same bloat factor applies again. On Windows you need fast extremely fast CPU's just to boot Windows. And then Windows steals a lot of resources just to keep on going. With a lean OS you will get the same experienced performance from a much lower performance CPU. And then very much is up to 3D HW and stuff like that anyway  ...
