RIP Dimebag Darrell
« on: December 09, 2004, 01:33:04 PM »
Say goodbye to the former pantera rocker Dimebag Darrell, currently of Damage Plan.

Shot dead whilst on stage at a gig in Ohio.

A sad day for metal fans worldwide :-(

Disgusting!

Can someone please remind me why Americans insist on "The Right to Bear Arms? TM (c) (c) All Rights Reserved"?

@ mdma

Let's wait and see whether the assailant was legally entitled to possess a weapon before condemning the US 'right to bear arms.'

Even if he had the gun legally, I don't think the 'right to bear arms' also implies 'the right to shoot people at a gig'.

Holy {bleep}ing {bleep}!

That's just...  :pissed:  :pissed:  :pissed:  :pissed:

(Can't think of any words that won't get censored)

I was never that big a fan of Pantera, I liked most of their stuff, but I never went out of my way to listen to them.  I still haven't heard anything by Damage Plan either.  But bloody hell...

Glad the policeman was there and killded the bugger, but that's way too good for him.

I bet you the media blames the music for this too :pissed: :pissed:

Goddamn it!

Goodbye Dimebag :-(

Legally held or not it makes no difference.

If the public were not allowed to use guns, then there would be less guns on the streets, and therefore less shootings.

I ask you, which is more dangerous, Heroin or a loaded gun in the hands of a nutcase?

"...If the public were not allowed to use guns, then there would be less guns on the streets, and therefore less shootings..."

Well, you have made an assumption there, mdma:

That the gun used in the shooting was legally held by an individual, either the shooter himself, or an individual from which the shooter 'acquired' the gun.

"...I ask you, which is more dangerous, Heroin or a loaded gun in the hands of a nutcase?..."

That's not a relevant statement at all. I could say what's more dangerous, a scalpel in the hands of a doctor who is off his rocker, or a doped up pilot at the controls of a Cessna?

These comparisons aren't useful.
What will be useful is to find out a bit more about this case:

1) Whose gun was it?
2) How did the assailant get the gun?
3) Was any attempt made by the organisers of the gig to make sure that weapons were not brought onto the premises?

In SA I frequently have to put up with the inconvenience of being scanned with a Garrett wand upon entering certain premises, including bars and casinos. I have to hand over my gun and it gets locked in a safe. This even happened at a scrap yard when I went looking for a dash component for my old Ford.
Even when entering banks, I still get scanned even though I can't possibly get any money from the staff, or hurt them behind the glass. The guard still scans me and demands ID and gun license before he lets me in.
Maybe what you want is better control over people going to these gigs with regards to weapons. There isn't any reason for someone to have weapons at a gig.

Come on guys!

I didnt open this thread to debate on guns being right / wrong. Just as a way to kinda say farewell to one of (imho) the best rockers in the metal world. Yes it sucks he was killed, even moreso by some loonie with a gun, but please dont turn this thread into some political argument like a lot of other threads on forums around here.

Guns have there place, and there time, just like 99.9% of things in this world. You may agree, you may not, thats not the point here. The point is someone here has been killed, and left behind a family, friends and a very large base of supporters / fans worldwide. Arguing about gun's isnt going to put that right.

It sucks that he was killed infront of his fans too.

December 8th 1980 John Lennon died infront of his fans by a madman weilding a gun.  The more things change...

I don't care who doesn't like me comparing Dimebag to Lennon - they were both very important figures to the people who cared.

Exactly. And you gotta admit, Pantera had a really big following in the Metal Scene, and were very widley respected. (Damage Plan Also).

I was totally shocked by this news. I heard in passing on the news "Attack at Rock concert, shots fired involving band Damage Plan" on the news this morning but did not see the actual report. I just heard it on the radio and couldn't believe my ears. Completely unexpected, speechless. I have never idolised any celebrity or muscian, but few like Dimebag really seemed just so down to earth. I also seem to be one of the few who actually liked Damage Plan.

Damn this sucks, please don't make this a pro / anti gun thread.

You made an incorrect assumption.

I was assuming the handgun was stolen to give weight to my argument, that if guns were illegal then there would be less chance of someone having one upon their person.  Therefore less chance of someone getting shot.

If a bloke feels the need to carry a gun, then in my opinion they are soft as sh!t and couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag.  If somebody this soft didn't have access to a gun then they wouldn't be able to carry out a gun related crime.

There are less gun crimes in the UK for this very reason.

Thank you. Maybe another day I'll argue it.

Damn, still thinking about this.

Shocked, saddened, appaled. He was just a beer drinking, fun loving down to earth guy.

Let's also not forget this nut killed 4 others besides Dimebag.. Too bad this scumbag can only die once...
