The Editor is right that sounds like a multisync monitor, and it should sound like that if you multitask betwen programs that use different screenmodes/resolutions.
I should know,since i have 3 old multisync screens. Commodore 1942 & 1940, Amiga 1438S.

I bought an AOC 17" from dabs las month for £89, it's a flat screen, does 1600x1200 at 75Hz and 1280x1024 at 85Hz.  It was a bargain, they also have 19" ones for a little more.

I'm kicking myself for using a little ####ty monitor for so long, degrading my eyes and pissing me off.  Get a decent monitor now, you'll never regret it!

Yes if you have a small monitor you don`t know what your missing. Its the same difference a new graphics card makes compared to AGA. TVPaint in 1280x1024 looks very nice! I use 1152x864 for a lot of programs, but its nice to have big resolutions to play with.

I've got a lovely 21" Panasonic PanaSync/Pro 7GX monitor. It definitely makes a difference. :-D

I have a 20" Eizo and it's quite nice :-)
I like the feature of having two inputs in the monitor, so I have my peecee and my amiga connected to it and I switch using a button of the front panel.
For amigans this is a quite interesting feature, I advise getting a monitor with two inputs to anyone with a miggy.

I guess you'll know it, but remember that every Trinitron monitor has one or two horizontal (and very thin) lines that cross the screen. Many people won't notice it, it depends a lot of what are you showing in the screen... anyway I'm quite satisfied with my monitor and I don't care much about the two lines.

Am using an NEC Multisync FE700 flatscreen with my A2000, looks pretty darn good tome, it too has two horizontal lines running accross the screen, am told it's some kind of wire embedded in the CRT screen for some reason.

Monitors are sure getting cheap. I remember about 2 or so years ago paying over AUD$1000 for a Philips 19" monitor. Similar speced Philips monitor costs about AUD$500 - $600 now. LCD are going pretty cheap aswell. I saw a Hercules Prophetview 720 (I thinks), 15" LCD and great for 3D games, for only AUD$550, new. I was tempted to buy it, but I needed the money to build a new setup for myself I read somewhere, that the growth of LCD's is overtaking CRT's here in Australia, in terms of %growth from the previous year.

I'm really pleased with a monitor I purchased from IBM. It's a nice black 17inch flat screen monitor (its the G78). Cost me $399 AUD late last year. I'm extremely pleased with it.
