Are you abanding Amiga?

Same goes for me...its a price vs. usefulness issue. "Do I really need this and what will I use it for if I get it?" Is what I always try to ask myself before a major purchase. I would love to support an Amiga company, but really can we trust any of them right now? Or even in the past couple of years? (I know there are a few that are honest and try hard, but the main players in control of the "Amiga" don't seem to me to be worthy) I have donated to AROS as I think it is the only real direction for the Amiga to go in. No one person at the helm, and no one target platform to buy for with all of the different ports. I would like to donate more, but I just got laid off unfortunately... (but with a little luck I will be going on to a slick new job soon!) I still have many classic Amigas for firing up old games with my brother and Dad sometimes. They are good for that and I don't need to spend the money on an A1 and then emulate a system that I already have in the garage. (Or in my brothers case, his A600 is on his desk next to his iBook and his PC)

Ultimately, I wish that AROS could draw in a larger audience and thus bring in more devs, get more of a word out about it, and with some solid community backing buy the rights to the Amiga name and any other IP they need / want and not have any of these shady characters involved with the Amiga anymore...ahhh keep dreaming Josh. Oh well. Time to play some Dead Or Alive Ultimate...

The spirit of it does not transpose onto the A1 or Pegasos (for me at least).

I was worried about that but as soon as you use either system a little, that 'amiga' feel shines through.
I admit owning and maintaining any type on Amiga these days is expensive, compared to other options.

Pure cost issue for me. I'd really like one, but I can't even afford to update my antiquated PC... Folks, I'm STILL at 400MHz! Max Payne is Paynefully slow.

I'd still like to see someone come up with a 100% 68k compatable CPU running at modern speeds... And still rooting for the Amiga ColdFusion accellerator board.

Either one of these on an ATX style board would win my vote for sure!

Actually, I've had my A1200 for eleven years. I'm worryingly attached to it. :-D
My main use of it was and still is for writing and recording music.
When the A1 earlybird offer was announced, I had some spare cash and thought I'd pitch in.
Then when I heard that Pro Station Audio was being bundled with the Pegasos, I wanted one of them too. The peg was much cheaper and I was able to start using it much more quickly. It's only in the last couple of weeks that I've started using the A1 but have a feeling it will end up being my main machine. I've yet to record a note on it though. :-P

I have four M$ Pc's in my house..  but MY machine is an A1 XE G4.

The philosphy being ... If No-one bothers to buy it... then No-one will bother to code for it !!

( The same applies to Pegasos)

And Os4 Flies.  It just needs more apps.  But they ARE coming.

I'd like to buy an Amiga one, for me its not about the cost but the actual availability of OS4.  It's fine waiting and waiting for an actual official release but the longer it takes, the longer it will take the community and new interest in the Amiga to buy it and then it may be too late.
If Eyetech had any sense why isn't the board being cloned by other manufacturers so that we can have a choice.

The problem i have now is i want a PPC operating system that is stable and easy to install, if i wanted linux i'd download it.

The question i think you should be asking is when is OS4 going to be released and packaged with a hardware machine that isn't outdated.  If the Amiga is to survive then it will need a new operating system sooner rather than later.

I'm waiting but i wont wait for ever!

OS4 is coming along just fine - getting better everyday! try to find someone with a system (especially a betatester) and you'll see for yourself!

I still have my original Amiga2000, use WinUAE, plus I have a pre-April peg and as soon as I can save up for it, I'll be getting the micro.

Pfff.... I have 4 computers operational in my bedroom alone. And two next to my TV. And those are just the ones hooked up and running. I wish I had a girlfriend to ask me about why I have so many of them.

I cannot see myself buying an Amiga One system, for a number of reasons.

One of the reasons is the cost...getting a MicroA1 would cost me £520, add on a 17" TFT monitor for another £300, a mini-itx case (with a PSU that works reliably with the motherboard...) would cost another £50, DVD -/+RW drive for another £50, and a cordless keyboard and mouse combo...another £50.

So that's £970 exc. delivery etc...call it a round £1000.

Now that on it's own isn't the biggest stumbling block...it is the lack of software that puts the biggest nail in the coffin.

I really cannot justify the spending of that much money on, essentially, for me, a hobby computer.

For that amount of cash, I want to be able to run a decent Office suite, use a modern standards-compliant web browser, edit video from my firewire digital camcorder, edit my photos etc. etc.

At the moment, I cannot see an A1 system providing me with the ability to do that as I would want to. Maybe that situation will change over time, but if I wanted to invest £1000 in a system - I would get a iMac G5 (to replace the iMac G4 I have at the moment...).

I've still got a couple of A1200s (Blizzard 1230 and 1260 equipped) which will more than do what I do on my Amiga nowadays...

 Yup, my sentiments exactly.
 I was thinking about a Peg2 or a Mac laptop, but since Genesi have confirmed a nagging doubt I had about the future of MorphOS (Plus a beta version of PureBasic for OSX has just been released :-) ), I think I know what I`m buying myself for Xmas.
 
 I`m not junking my Amigas though.. I love hacking about with them (both hardware and coding). Dunno why, but I get more enjoyment out of it compared to coding for Windows
