I am having a major problem with my Amiga 600.
« on: September 10, 2004, 11:28:55 PM »
I am having a mojor problem with my Amiga 600, below is full detailed symptoms:

A) I own two Amigas, one of them is an Amiga 500 and the other one is an Amiga 600 (I love them both).

B) The Amiga 500 works a hundred percent in my TV, it displays the pictures (full colored) and sounds as clear as silk.

C) The TV is programmed at channel 4, (I am using the Amiga 500 modulator for my Amiga 500 (No freaking DUH)).

D) I turn OFF the Amiga 500 and hook my Amiga 600, I put the RF into my INTERNAL Amiga 600 modulator and turn it ON..NOTHING. ZERO. NILCH. NANA. No pictures and sounds just the random pixels and sssssssssshhhhhh sound you get from a TV when no communication reaches the television.

E) I tried to program to the TV, nothing, zero, nilch..problem presist as usual.

F) I install the Amiga 500 modulator into the Amiga 600 (Video port) picture and sound appears but here is my frustration at this point. The picture is black and white and the reason it is black and white because it is not clear, you know how when you program a station and it needs fine tuning because you get this Ssshhh sound and the picture is not clear and sometimes black and white. That symptom is occuring here, only no matter how hard I program no effect occures, the problem remains the same. When I try to use the internal modulator of my Amiga 600 look at D) for furthe detail.

Q: Why I am angry?
A: Will for one thing I did end up spending 300 dollars Canadian in total to get the Amiga 600 ready with it's 3 GB hard drive. I am angry cause I could have spend that for an Amiga 1200 and now I am broke ><

I also played with the screw in the modulator and nothing worked.

I should not be replying - having seen only 1 or 2 A600's ever - but does the NTSC A600 even have an RF modulator?

Might the built-in jack really be a more modern composite video out?

Where did you get the A600?  If it's not built for N. America, it may be outputing PAL, thus causing problems.

Will it is a PAL Amiga and my TV is PAL too. My TV is 10 years old, JVC, and its 21ch size. But like in my previous post my Amiga 500 works a 100% but my Amiga 600 does not work at all. Any suggestions?

Sorry - I should have guessed the TV did not have composite video in when you said you were using the 500's RF modulator...

Does the 600 output correctly if you send the 600's composite video out to a VCR, and let the VCR talk to the TV (or is this even an option)?

Is the built in Amiga 600 modulator switch set to channel 3 or to channel 4?

Did you try using channel 3 instead of 4 with both the A600 internal and with the A520 modulator to see if it made the picture any clearer?

Maybe the A600 if giving off RF that is interfearing with the Channel 4 signal for some reason...

I'd skip all that and connect it to SCART using RGB video output, if your TV can handle it. IIRC then it shouldn't matter if its NTSC or PAL or whatever.
No colour probably means you have wrong system PAL/NTSC like FastRobPlus said.
Be carefull when turning that little screw, just a slight turn will be enough to change the channel. BTW, that little switch is for sound only, IIRC.

Video is not an option I am afraid.  I used both channel 3-4 for the amiga 600 but I di dnot match the internal modulator of the amiga 600 and 500 in terms of channel. I don't know what could be the problem though.

Did you try flicking the little switch on the modulator?

I think I have strained my finger from the amount of time I have flicked that little switch :(. I think I have a broken amiga 600..if anyone is willing to give away their amiga 600 it would be greatly appreciate it. I would be willing to taking it off your hands.

Did you hook up the 600 to a RGB monitor at all?  Sounds like a Video standards problem.  You may have the wrong Video system.

I don't have an amiga monitor. I am hooking my amiga 600 to a tv.  I use the internal modulator to hook it to the tv and it is not working.  Any suggestions TjLaZer? :)

Well the next logical step is to see if the 600 is working in RGB mode. Then you can see if it is a PAL or NTSC machine.  You PAL over there?

@foody

A simple way to know if your 600 is PAL...........is the key right to the left of the RETURN key blank?  then your machine is PAL, but if the key nest to your A600 RETURN key is the QUOTE symbol with the COMA, then its probably NTSC.

The RETURN key on NTSC machines is bigger.
CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

@leirbag28

I have a small Return key, look at my 600HD in my pictures.  I also have two small blank keys, one next to the return and one next to the left shift.
