Memory for the CSPPC
« on: August 03, 2004, 12:51:42 PM »
I have 4 64MB EDO Parity (36bit) SIMM's, would these work in a CSPPC ? (with ofcourse only giving 128MB as max) ?

As i've heard some bad things about using EDO in Amiga CPU boards i'm hesitating.

I've never tried it before, but since this board is so expensive, if I were you, I would not toy around with it. Simply get four matching 32MB FPM or EDO 60ns memory modules, and be done with it.
Banks 0 and 2 and 1 and 3 need to be matching, however I would still make sure that all four simms are the same.
EDO ram works just as well as FPM and to Amiga, it makes no difference as to which one you are using, as long as IN GENERAL your accelerator is not picky about memory, but such accelerators will be picky on just about any kind of memory (EDO or FPM). Your CSPPC is a quality product so it should work and tolerate most of the simms out there.

AFAIK the CSPPC will only recognise up to 32MB SIMMS.

I doubt EDO is a problem, but the size of the simm probably is.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Hmmm, so it would it, or wouldn't it be safe to use the 64MB ones ?

size wise they would fit (normal size SIMM's) they are 50Nanosec, also all 4 of them are matched.

I tried that in mine... but they only came out as 16MB each. I can't remember if they were unreliable - I think they were.

Of course, YMMV, but 32MB each SIMM is much safer, and I've never really needed more than the 96MB in my A4000 anyway...

EDO is no problem, BTW, and you won't damage anything by trying (insert standard disclaimer of non-culpability here!) as long as you're careful.
