I thought this was a community site, a friendly place...
« on: November 10, 2004, 03:36:50 PM »
So why all the Anti-American and Anti-Religion rubbish?

It makes me feel quite ashamed to think that some users will come to this site, and then be put off by all the hateful rhetoric flying around in the CH, and then not return.

Am I being unreasonable in thinking this?
Or are the people who post this just trolling and TRYING to upset people and offend people. Whatever happened to respect the views, lifestyles etc of others?
I'm sure if people started throwing homophobic comments around it (quite rightly) wouldn't be tolerated. But people can direct as much hate towards Christians and Americans as they like....Do you people have any love and respect for your fellow humans?

[Disclaimer : I know, criticising US foreign policy is not Anti-American per se, but saying 'All Americans are dumb' etc IS]

@ Eyso

I understand your point.

But do we need to keep saying all these things again and again? When I came back here last week after a few days away, the whole of the CH latest posts section was CH/Politics.
I didn't read these threads because they didn't interest me.
Why didn't they interest me? Not because I have no interest in foreign affairs and so on, but because I knew roughly what people were going to be saying.

I still maintain that all this 'anti' stuff is unnecessary. People could say the same things in much more constructive ways, without so being so inciteful about it.

Please, people, if I'm being unreasonable or deluded, explain to me how. I really am wondering if its just me here thinking these things....

@ Wain

Whilst there are a few ignorant comments made on that thread, the general consensus is anti-homophobic.

That isn't to say that I disagree with your point, of course.

But the original poster is roundly mocked for stating what he does.

In my opinion, i think that Cyberus has gone the totally wrong way about this. By creating this thread, he is doing what "the rest of us" has done (aka the "hate" threads). I don't see my political threads as being nothing more than debates, i also see nothing wrong with JonoPikes religion threads as being nothing more than debates. They may have been worded a little affensively (i admit) but the guidlines were there for a good debate (as proved by replies). Basically, everyone is entitled to an opinion, if the other person can't take it then don't view it. Don't critise these threads and say it's wrong to have these critism threads, when all what their thread is based on is critising other threads.

Well, it's one thing to say 'This is why I am not religious...' or 'I don't understand why people are religious'. Or 'I can't believe they've elected Bush again!'

But its another thing to insult other people's politics or beliefs. You youself admit that they are worded offensively. I just think that offending people is not a good way of having a debate.
However, I do believe that some of those threads do become good debates, as you yourself say. In fact, it was more the titles of the threads, that appear in the CH that I was referring to. All I am saying, is that, if for example you visited a forum, and there were loads of threads that said stuff like, 'Brits are the scum of the earth', 'People from Exeter are {bleep}s', 'Amiga users are dumb', etc...
Would you not be a little bit put off visiting there again?

Yes. It is because Mr Cyberus is actually JEALOUS of me!

That's right.
He's onto me guys, whatever am I going to do?

Ok, I admit it, I'm SO jealous of you, I want to BE you. In fact, I get wet just thinking about you.

He is jealous of me, my Amiga and most shockingly; my postal skills

Yep, I just can't lick a stamp and put it on an envelope as skillfully as you. My mail sorting isn't up to speed either. I can only sort about 1500 letters an hour. I was the laughing stock of the local Royal Mail sorting office

and my popularity on Amiga.org! :-)

Yep, it must be all thos insightful threads about how all Americans are dumb, except Hulk Hogan, cos he 'rules' and how we should bring back Roy Walker, that has won you so many friends.

Quote

And i think that Cyberus is nothing but a black eye on the boards. Ha! take that Mr Cyberus!

:-? Now you have me lost. How can a person be a black eye?

I think when me and Mr Cyberus argue, we use the best posssible posting techniques to counter arguements and for entertaining others.

Or I launch a stinging attack and then feel a little guilty about being a bit nasty and apologise, or reinforce that its all meant to be in good humour, at which point you type a load of crap in response. :-)

Plus i won the last "Great AmiBattle - Part 1" :-)

Oh no, its not JonoPike and those rap threads again is it?

This, unfortunately means that all posts after the 9th of October have been lost. Better in our opinion than all posts.

So Cyberus, WHAT ARE YA GONNA DO, WHEN CU_AMiGA RUNS WILD ON YOU! :pissed:

I'll set the Hulkster and all his other lame buddies on you.

Oh yeah, Cyberus is also JEALOUS of my great avatar.

I must admit, you've got me there. Lemme guess, you drew that with DPaint II on your A500?

"The Artwork of CU_Amiga.  CU_Amiga had no formal art training. He usually works in the Amiga's lowest resolution mode - 320x200, using only 32 colors (or even less if color cycling was used).

Even today, his work speaks for itself, being some of the most incredible ever produced on any platform.  Especially considering most of it was done entirely by "hand"."

I'm impressed, I thought it was a ray-trace ;-)

Okay Cyberus. I admit, i went a bit nuts yesterday, so i will draw the line and stop this mini flaming. :-)

Well, I tried to draw a line, but you just couldn't resist could you? Now of course you've retaliated, I have to :-D

(We have taken this thread completely off topic now :-()
Perhaps we should start a dedicated thread to have a flaming contest on?
