Bringing it back on topic...

In my opinion, i think that Cyberus has gone the totally wrong way about this. By creating this thread, he is doing what "the rest of us" has done (aka the "hate" threads). I don't see my political threads as being nothing more than debates, i also see nothing wrong with JonoPikes religion threads as being nothing more than debates. They may have been worded a little affensively (i admit) but the guidlines were there for a good debate (as proved by replies). Basically, everyone is entitled to an opinion, if the other person can't take it then don't view it. Don't critise these threads and say it's wrong to have these critism threads, when all what their thread is based on is critising other threads.

Well, it's one thing to say 'This is why I am not religious...' or 'I don't understand why people are religious'. Or 'I can't believe they've elected Bush again!'

But its another thing to insult other people's politics or beliefs. You youself admit that they are worded offensively. I just think that offending people is not a good way of having a debate.
However, I do believe that some of those threads do become good debates, as you yourself say. In fact, it was more the titles of the threads, that appear in the CH that I was referring to. All I am saying, is that, if for example you visited a forum, and there were loads of threads that said stuff like, 'Brits are the scum of the earth', 'People from Exeter are {bleep}s', 'Amiga users are dumb', etc...
Would you not be a little bit put off visiting there again?

I'd just like to apologise for the (hopefully) uncharacteristic behaviour there. I'm not normally incensed to get into that kind of personal confrontation with another user.

Bad day at the office ;-)

Cecilia was right about me being ironic in calling my self "despised". Members on this forum have been courteous to me personally.  It is the issue Cyberus brought up that I chose to address. For I am exactly what I said I am.  I do not apologize for that.  But I do understand how the sentiments can arise so I choose not to take offense. (Well, mostly :-) ).  I am a Christian, not because I am a member of a denomination.  In fact I am not, though I do attend a church full of people which I love and respect. I call myself that because I accepted the person of Jesus Christ and I love God. I am a conservative because I believe in paying my own way in life as much as possible.  If you knew my family's history, you would understand why.  My very ability to have and support a family in spite of my past (and present condition) is proof enough to me that God is taking care of me. I also believe in the sanctity of human life, even those not yet born. At one point we were all not yet born, yet which us us would volunteer to be aborted? Millions yearly are not given that choice in my country. I am a Republican because I have read both the Democratic Party Platform and the Republican Party Platform and found out which one I was. Republicans are less likely to despise me for being a Christian. I am an American by birth and citizenship.  This means I partake in races and cultures and governments from all over the world. I try to respect that heritage.  Our government originated in Greece. Our language from Italy, Britain, France, and Germany. Our technology largely from Britain and Germany.  Our basic religious concept and ethical structure from Israel.  Our favorite restaurants from China :-D .  Our number system from the Arabs.  Much of our music from Africa. So many nations have taken a part in shaping the US into what it is that I could not begin to know them all, but I am grateful to them.
Any obstacle can be an opportunity, try a different perspective.

@Cyberus & CU_AMiGA:

I love it when a  "fight" between you two erupts, which is most entertaining to read. :-)
It seems that Cyberus sort of bullies CU_AMiGA, every once in a while, however for reasons unknown. I kind of remember that something about CU_AMiGA pissed off Cyberus repeatedly, but I can't quite put my finger on what.

And the :flame: goes on...

This is the first time that CU actually wanted to get you first, e.g.:

Yes. It is because Mr Cyberus is actually JEALOUS of me! He is jealous of me, my Amiga and most shockingly; my postal skills and my popularity on Amiga.org! :-) And i think that Cyberus is nothing but a black eye on the boards. Ha! take that Mr Cyberus!

I think when me and Mr Cyberus argue, we use the best posssible posting techniques to counter arguements and for entertaining others.

Plus i won the last "Great AmiBattle - Part 1" :-)

Yes you have a point there, maybe i should have worded it better but i honestly don't think it was THAT effensive. But remember it is about point of view, and if they can't hack it, then they shouldn't watch.

Yes maybe a little but, but as i said, i really don't think it was THAT effensive.

Even Wayne seemed to like the post! He said that the last few threads have been good, infact possibly the best threads.

Take This Cyberus!

Oh yeah, Cyberus is also JEALOUS of my great avatar.

And another thing (not directly at Byberus this time), i hate all this "Glod Bless America" {bleep}. I hate all the bloody 50-odd stars and stripes {bleep}, the way most buildings have a stupid stars and stripes flag blowing about, the way they have to bge better than others, they think there so bloody great.

I remember seeing a couple of days ago (in New York Post i think), and it was about invasion in Irag and the headline was: "Smokin' Americ Kicks Butt", what kind of a {bleep}ing headline is that? Thousands of people are being killed and all what these morons care about is being matcho? I think that says it all.

Seriously, those are just labels. In and of themselves, they do not make you the person you are.

Seriously though, between fur flying, I find some very well reasoned arguments and interesting perspectives.  I am learning to respect many of the members of this forum, no matter where they are from.  It is a very educational experience for me and I place a high premium on education.  It is also a very unique opportunity as I simply cannot afford to cross the ocean and meet people of other nations, even if they did deign to give me, a total stranger, the time of day.  Here I am accepted simply because I have an Amiga and wish to learn. Do not get me wrong, I greatly appreciate your sentiments and admire you for them.

How very well put.
I agree 100%.
