I'm sure if people started throwing homophobic comments around it (quite rightly) wouldn't be tolerated.

Actually, not too long ago, this was a regular feature of a couple of specific posters(and probably will be again), and AFAIK was completely ignored by the powers that be who reside on here.  Certainly the threads were not removed, or locked.

Due to this, the rest of us have done our best to turn anti-gay rhetoric into vaguely meaningful conversation to some degree or another.

It's got to be tough to keep things relatively fair and civil, without hearing people screaming about a moderator censoring them...however, I do feel that homosexual slurs and attacks should be added to the list of things considered inappropriate on the moderation guidelines...currently, it only forbids "Any post or comment advocating anti-semitic or racist views."

Allow me to point you to this lovely thread...

@ Wain

Whilst there are a few ignorant comments made on that thread, the general consensus is anti-homophobic.

That isn't to say that I disagree with your point, of course.

But the original poster is roundly mocked for stating what he does.

/// its all the same. Its either "I hate America/Bush because " or "I wish all religions would disapear because ", well thats what it looked like the last time I visited there, I didn't even dare looking in CH/Politics during the US elections, I shudder to think what that was like.

Which is what I would like to avoid here. It really is getting boring to see "I hate Americans!! You republicans are too dumb to even graduate from high-school! haha!"

That, and calling people "unintelligent", or giving them other {bleep}ty insults just because you can't come up with a decent (read: intelligent) argument yourself. (Do you know who I think of now?)

But I guess there is a certain group who can't stop attacking the same group of supporters of a particular political party, or putting {bleep} on all religious people. Can you make them stop? You can't.

Sorry, but that seems to be the truth. At least, now it does.

@iama

That's slightly hypocritical sentiment coming from "Mr I hate Fags!", isn't it?

Selective memory, eh? Read Wains' post to see a shining example of youself ranting about how much you hate homosexuals.

-edit-

Oh wait, I forgot - you surely can't waste your valuable heterosexual time to read a post made by a "fag"*

Silly me

*By the way, since when have cigarettes been able to express opinions?

-/edit-

So, it's OK to rant on about how much you hate "fags" - who have done absolutely sod all to you or anybody else, whereas someone ranting about how much they hate GWB, who has sanctioned the murder of thousands of people is out of order?

:pissed: This has just about become a flaming contest between you and I.  And to be quite frank, Karlos, I don't want that.

All I get from THE SAME FEW (which now includes YOU it seems), is this:

"Oh! Please don't be homophobic, blah blah blah! Don't express your
religious/political views ...blah blah blah! No, leave that up to us -
the experts on politics and religion!"

I'd like to see this a nice friendly place, but unfortunately there is too much damn flaming going on. It all comes from the same ... fewer than 10.

Hardly, I have no desire to emulate your behaviour for any longer than was necessary to point it out to yourself.

I was simply exposing the discontinuity in your argument - you were criticizing others for being vocal about their objection to something, when you yourself can be, have been, and often are just as vocal.

If you have an issue with X, there are ways to present your argument without resorting to insults and ranting.

For example, if I express my disgust with the attitude of Bush and his cronies, it is not without explanation.

Me neither.

Having established your position, can you reason to us why you hate homosexuals?

In my opinion, i think that Cyberus has gone the totally wrong way about this. By creating this thread, he is doing what "the rest of us" has done (aka the "hate" threads). I don't see my political threads as being nothing more than debates, i also see nothing wrong with JonoPikes religion threads as being nothing more than debates. They may have been worded a little affensively (i admit) but the guidlines were there for a good debate (as proved by replies). Basically, everyone is entitled to an opinion, if the other person can't take it then don't view it. Don't critise these threads and say it's wrong to have these critism threads, when all what their thread is based on is critising other threads. It is being 2 faced, which, i believe, is what Cyberus is doing in this case.
