Any new news on OS4 Release yet?
« on: September 23, 2004, 02:29:13 AM »
Hey all,
I keep waiting and waiting. Has anyone heard anything more on when we might expect to see a release of OS4? I'm not talking beta's or fixes/patches or any of that guff. I mean an actual release for people to go out and buy.
I was told September the last time and well it seems almost as quiet as when Fleecy was running things.
Hate to say it sounds like wolfs in sheeps clothing or anything but no one seems to know much of anything appart from that's it's still being worked on and "When it's done" crap.

I know you all are waiting too and there's nothing more we can do but wait, but surely some of you know some of the people on the Dev team, are we getting any closer?? Will it be this year?
It's not the question, that is the problem, it is the problem, that is the question.

Why then Can't Hyperion use AMigaworld or some other site for free as it's announcements for updates/fixes/addons.

Wouldn't it be great to have a web page that get's updated by someone saying
*Issues outstanding
1.
2.
3.
*New features
1.
2.
3.
*Fixes
1.
2.
3.

You know, dates / times how many people working on what???
If they are hireing people to do certain taskes in their own time, why not hand a few out to public to solve too.

AROS are kings at doing this type of dev. But most of all, they keep you informed by their website on what still needs doing and what's been fixed etc...

How many people do you know that would do the updates to a page like that for free? I could find 5 or so already that would love to help out.

No more seaching for forum chatter and wade through trolling, a website page that tells you what's what.
It's not the question, that is the problem, it is the problem, that is the question.

@orange
No OS4 will not run on classic AMIGA hardware.
It's a barnd new OS designed to run on PPC technology, not legacy 68x and thank god for that. Those chips are now defunct and will not be produced in number or revisions so we all need to get with the times there. Not that I didn't like the old 68x it's just Motorolla have decided not to go this way.

I agree with the above about releasing the OS4. Release the damm thing and offer upgrades etc to fix bugs, like Microsoft, Linux etc and all other serious OS's.
You get fixes all the time in Linux, new kernals, improved functionality, fixed drivers etc.. Same with winblows etc.
Have a web site to d/l fixes for. You could even generate some extra cash for yourself by selling service pack upgrades on CD for non internet users! or for people that want the CD.

I hate the way things are run at the moment, but hey, what choice do I have!!
