I think its all about looking like Eminem, or something like that. BTW, its not only the 18-22 year olds, but males as young as 10 as well, I see it all the time at work. Whats even worse is primary school kids with mobile phones :-o :-o :-o

Very rarly does a child actually pay for the mobile phone, the parents do, people must have too much disposable income these days. I say its time we brought shirts, ties, blazers and corporal punishment back into schools!!!

I don't think expensive uniforms will solve the mobile phone thing.

I'm against that.

Sorry, I was refering to the rather crappy dress sense kids have today.

I think this quote applies to this thread...

I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary...

Without having any experience with them myself, I think school uniforms sound like a good idea.

At least it should put an end to (or negate the "excuse" for) the bullying of kids who dress "differently" or simply have parents who can't afford to constantly keep their kids supplied with the latest fashion gear.

It would probably help improve the overall climate and discipline in schools, what with the clearer border between "school time" and "play time" that the uniform would signify.

Couldn't agree more. Many schools in Victoria now have uniforms, but they are not what I would call a full school uniform, more a pair of school track pants, a school polo top and a school jumper. I kinda like the idea of shirts, ties etc., it teaches young people how to look professional.

Corporal punishment? Nah. But I do think that it's absurd when teachers are charged with assault if they grab an unruly pupil by the arm, or if they defend themselves when they get a fist in the face(!) from a kid that obviously shouldn't be attending a normal school in the first place.

How about shock collars???
