I say its time we brought shirts, ties, blazers and corporal punishment back into schools!!!
Without having any experience with them myself, I think school uniforms sound like a good idea.
At least it should put an end to (or negate the "excuse" for) the bullying of kids who dress "differently" or simply have parents who can't afford to constantly keep their kids supplied with the latest fashion gear.
It would probably help improve the overall climate and discipline in schools, what with the clearer border between "school time" and "play time" that the uniform would signify.
Corporal punishment? Nah. But I do think that it's absurd when teachers are charged with assault if they grab an unruly pupil by the arm, or if they defend themselves when they get a fist in the face(!) from a kid that obviously shouldn't be attending a normal school in the first place.
Re. weird fashion: I'm constantly amazed by humanity's ability to always pick the most ugly and ridiculous things to reuse in "retro" fashion. I'm sure there was something that looked good even in the Decade of Ugly, the 1970s, so why choose to reuse something horrid like bell-bottom pants of all things today? And now when the fashion gurus have started reusing the 1980s, puffy hair and huge semi-tinted sunglasses should be things to avoid. But do they listen to me? Nooooo....
