What is the maximum HD size which can be used with OS 3.0 (2.5"HD, A1200)?

Thanks in advance.

4gb without PFS or SFS. FFS can`t go higher than 4.

;-) Out of the box, Amiga OS 3.0 uses 32-bit addressing when accessing hard drives.  This limits you to 4 binary gigabytes, or about 4.3 billion bytes in decimal notation.  Amiga OS 3.5 and 3.9 use 64-bit addressing and thus don't share that limit.  Also, it's been reported that there are patches, etcetera for OS 3.0 on Aminet that will allow the use of larger hard drives.

@Nick thats a slight misconception there. FFS isnt the problem with greater than 4GB HDD's its the scsi.device used, that only has 32bit addressing so it can only address the first 4GB. However FFS did have a limitation in that you could only partition upto 2GB with it, I belive thats no longer a problem with OS3.9, not too sure on 3.5. As someone else mentioned there are ways of getting round the 4GB limit on <=3.1 systems, but ive never looked into it. Personally I dont see why anyone would still be using 3.0 :-)

Well, I basically abandoned my Amiga back in 1995/1996.  After being in the PC quagmire for the next couple of years I'm about to make the switch back to the Amiga. However, my 40meg HD :-D basically is too small, and considering how cheap HD's are these days I basically decided that the good ol' 1200 deserves a bit of an upgrade.

Anyhow, I'll be getting a A1 in June or July 2003, so no need to go for another OS in the 3x range. OS4.0 will do rather nicely :-) .

Cheers :pint:

Bodie@: good luck with that! , and remeber you could always use a 3.5 hdd if the 2.5's are too expensive.

great to hear about people comming back...or wanting to :)
