Well, hardcore is a form of punk-rock, indeed, BUT it is also a form of INFAMOUS techno.

Imagine, at least 200BPM, a piercing bassdrum (think resonating TB303), vocal samples played to a high pitch and looped noise samples. If you want a good example of this crap, try any demo/tune by Jormas (yes, the Amiga demo-group).

Alternatively, you have gabber, which is even more extreme and contains samples from Metal riffs, played high-pitched, too.

MAD: i'll take your word for this but obviously this is a newer development and sounds like something that is not to my taste.

the reason NY Hardcore (Government Issue, DRI, CroMags, WarZone, etc) interested me was because it was something that could NOT be stolen by corportations. they made themselves as "unlikeable" as possible in terms of selling themselves as product. that made them honest and full of raw rage!

It's one of the things I like about Stiff Little Fingers (who are more like punk) except that band has melody. But they don't get sappy! ever! they just have great lyrics and great music! and raw power!

Well, hardtech is not "new". It emerged in the early 90's.

I did not know that Cro-Mags were hardcore. I though they did Metal. Anyway... It is too close to punk for me to like it, moreover, I do not like ultra-politicised music.

If you can call them tunes There's some urban bloke called fatman scoop, which involves some sort of beat to this rather fat african american man shouting out stuff, and this was in the British charts :-O  Also most music played by boy racers, always sounds like they just bought/made a cd full of banging and booming lol

Whoever the hell that is. I just know it gets played three times a day at work on the local radio station. It's the most infuriating song ever and I'm pretty sure the piano sample is out of key.

Gabber is still my favorite music. I admit that 80% of it is pure junk, but when done right (Omar Santana, Buzz Fuzz, Lenny Dee, D.O.A., Tellurian, Speedfreak, etc.) it can sound really, really....really great. Sometimes even happier sounds from the likes of 3 Steps Ahead and similar artists could hit the spot...really. :-)

Yes. It is about the only music style that "does it" for me. Like I said, there's a lot of junk to go through until you find a good track or two, but they are there, rest assured.

I like other forms of electronic music as well, but gabber is #1 in the list, definitely.

I started witing a vewy long and borwing post about the vawious subgenres of hardcore but it got too long... I could pwobably talk about it fowever. Anyway, Cwo-Mags are genewally considered early pioneers of the metal-hardcore cwossover. (Intewestingly, while things got more violent in New York, they were busy laying the foundations of modern indie-wock in Washington DC.)

You could still tell with the Cwo-Mags that they were a hardcore band, they had the group backups and a more "danceable" whythm. These days any slightly unorthodox metal band that goes the independant woute is genewally labelled hardcore.
