Yes, the Blizzard 1230 is the best range of '030 accelerators for
Amiga 1200. Phase5 must have made a good profit on these.
The pinnacle of A1200 1230s was the Phase5 Blizzard 1230-IV. That is
the 4th one in the series.
It allows up to 128mb of RAM and a further 128mb (to make 256mb) if
you add the SCSI-IV kit onto the 1230-IV.
The best place to get the Blizzard 1230-IV is on eBay, eBay is also
the worst place as it'll cost on average £80 there. Your best bet is
to get lucky with a bargain on Amibench or a local trade paper.
Points to remember with the Blizzard 1230 are firstly to go for the
1230-IV if possible, to make sure it comes with memory (won't work if
there's no SIMM onboard), make sure it has a full 50Mhz 68030 (cheaper
brands used 40Mhz/68EC030) and it would be the cherry on the cake if
you had a 50Mhz 68882 FPU. This FPU thing looks like another gold
square but smaller and will speed up 3D games and apps.
A Goliath power supply would be reccomended too, or a Wizard Powerbox.
You could also convert a PC AT/ATX power supply. When I got my 1230-IV
it performed okay without one, but as soon as I added bits like a
scandoubler I blew 2x A1200 PSU and an A500 supply (which is supposed
to be beefier!)
And just one final note, be patient when installing it as any trapdoor
card can be a pain to fit at first due to the enclosed space and tight
fitting connectors. Use your thumb and lever the SIMM socket a little
whilst guiding the 150-pin connector onto the motherboard.
