Nokia 6600 and Amiga 1200 : )
« on: June 24, 2004, 02:01:03 PM »
Greetings,

Just bought a new mobile cell. A Nokia 6600. It has PeeCee Cd apps which one can use. This baby has a 32MB flash ram. A built-in cam. I'm still working on it on how I could connect this to WAP and other neat'o stuff like RealOne Player! :-D

Since I only have me trusty A1200. Are there any hardware/software I can make use my new mobile?

My option in taking pics is sending it via MMS to my Email address and download it from there using my miggy.

Someone would suggest a better way to transfer between them would be helpful?

I would apologise, in advance, if I will not respond for a while. I'm still reading the manual and figuring out this baby works.

Again, answers and suggestion would be appriciated! Cheers
to all!

Hi gizz72!

Connecting 6600 to the A1200 can get *VERY* expensive and
hard. You'd obiviously have write a software (for example) for the Algor USB and Nokia phone by yourself. (If you want to take the USB route)

Or build a IRDA reciever for your Amiga... And code a software for that.

But if your mobile has a MMC slot, maybe you can exchange information by using a PCMCIA -> MMC memory adapter

I asked a similar question. About using my GP32 with my A1200. But despite the UNIX version being available as open source, no one is interested in porting it to the Amiga. :-(

Speaking of which...........

The only ways connecting the phone to a computer are infrared and bluetooth, so better start coding if you want to connect it to your Amiga  :-D

Great phone btw, I have one myself. The only bad side is that the windows software that came with it is horrible crap.

Hello everyone,
Finally got it to work. Tried to post awhile back. It failed to post. Too low bandwidth I guess. Anyway, PCMCIA and MMC flash card is a good option, but not cheap. I guess USB port is my only option. What an expensive phone BTW. Drained most of my savings. Whew... It ain't cheap.. :-)

Anyway thanks for the tips and more to come I hope. Thanks all. Try to test some pics soon.

Hi gizz72!

I hope that there has not been a any kind of misunderstanding between us. To connect the phone via USB you'll have to be able to code the routines by yourself to read the USB data from the phone.

If I would be in your position, I would choose the reader method, because you'll get the things done in much easier way.

PS. The 6600 is such an old S60 phone that it doesn't have a USB port. The only connectivity it provides is IR and BT..

So, someone get cracking and code an IrDA stack and a Bluetooth stack for the Amiga.. There are many USB adapters and also IrDA dongles that go on the serial port. ;-)

The easiest way to transfer stuff to the phone would be a flashcard reader.. The painful bit about it is, that you need to take the phone apart every time you want to transfer stuff.

Greetings again,

Hmm, interesting. I found a pic of it
here.

Now the hard part. I'm not much of a programmer much but AmosPro is  the PL i'm going to use. Will it do?

If a stack i'm going to make, does it need a protocol?

Cheers.

I also found a site for simbian os. but all commands are in C++. I'm not used to C++ at all. Here is the site I found. Bugger me I answered my own question! I hate that.. :pissed:

Greetings,

Okey, yesterday, I went around some shops to find a hardware I could use to transfer between My cell and miggy.

I found two options, and a bit cheaper. They're all USB devices, and It seems that serial connections are not availble here anymore.

I'm left with one more option and a long shot. I've decided to buy a USB port for my A1200. I'll ask Sotfwarehut for the best and available price(Which could take a while, but I'll manage).

After which I'll buy the USB devices. Now there are two of them and yes they're both working for the PeeCee with drivers and such. So my question is:
Which devices is a lot easier to develope a software for it? A bluetooth or IrDA?

BTW I have AmosPro v2.11 with me. I hope this is enough. Or
What Programming Language is best suited for developing for these devices? Or does the USB port for the A1200 has an existing software for it already?

Thanks for the Answers. Cheers!

You cant use bluetooth or irda on the Amiga. QWe have nothing that
supports the standards. The ONLY way is a card reader. Some USB ones
work but since you have a PCMCIA slot I would just get one for that.

@Acill

Good Suggestion, however I have a problem concerning my PCMCIA, unless you have an answer to this, here's a pic of my old flash card(using my cell):

Error accessing says: 'PrepCard is Write Protected'

I hope that will not happen to a PCMCIA flashcard reader if I purchase one. Got an answer for that problem, would be appreciated too? ;-)
