OpenOffice kicks *ss
60mb free download gives no one the excuse not being able to read your documents, and you can demand from others to create their documents in that format (wich we actually did at my study)
plus, for instance, Office 2000 has bad backwards compatibility, so if one has Office 97 and the other 2000...
with OpenOffice both can easily have the newest version.
tis of course a broadband kinda view, but nevertheless..

bad thing I can't find an Acces alternative in this package.
Anyone suggestions? (except from Oracle, wich is not really within my budget as far as I know)

Got there before you, installed OO 1.1.2 on my home PC and laptop this morning :-)

I've yet to update my home PC's Mandrake install with OO 1.1.2, the urpmi system doesn't have the new version in yet (and tends to be very sluggish, I do keep it sync'd).  I have to install it "manually", and I can't remember how and can't be bothered to try right now :-)

Hey Speel,

How about MySQL? If you have Apache and PHP running then you can use the excellent phpMyAdmin. And writing web front-ends for MySQL databases is a piece of cake with PHP.

I had OO a while back and enjoyed it, but it seemed to be a bit memory hungry just for the quickstarter, but I'm going to have another look now that we've got a new PC :-D

Oh, and we've got bb now, so the d'l will be super quick compared to the last time I got it when I was on dial-up :-o :-D
