news item deleted
« on: June 18, 2004, 02:58:00 PM »
First, I don't really feel an explanation is warranted, but considering the recent history regarding disappearing news posts, I felt that I should say something to ward off what will become the inevitable complaints.

Today, after examining the history of the situation, I removed the latest news item regarding intuitionbase.com (zero comments).  Why?  Well, over at least the last two weeks, we have been given a new news item every time Ryu makes the slightest change to his Web site.  While we welcome news items of note, posting EVERY SINGLE CHANGE as a news item really amounts to what we'd like to call "free advertising".

Ryu is welcomed to purchase advertising, or to inform the rest of the world via our news interface when something truly substantial happens to his Web site (like completely changing things around, or adding completely new sections) but the news system is being abused in the name of free advertising, and that we cannot accept.

(edit: please note that we did NOT remove his news item regarding his newly created store, as that is actually of note).

For the record, I think he's doing a bang-up job with intuitionbase.com.  I only wished he had respected his former duties and responsibilities to Amiga.org (as an admin) with as much zeal.

AO advertising is very inexpensive btw, a no brainer really.

Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

@wayne
While I partly agree, I do think your last remark is a bit of a cheap poke at Ryu and completely irrelevant [that is, the bit about his responsabilities on a.org].

@odin,

I politely disagree with the poke comment, or the irrelevancy of the situation.  It's not intended as an insult, because I think he IS doing a good job with intuitionbase.com.

Though most people don't agree, I *am* allowed to have and express my own thoughts here -- just as you are.  My thought on the matter is that if he had shown even 1/2 as much interest in Amiga.org while he was a member of the staff here, this would be a much better place and there would be a lot less drama going on.  That's not intended as an insult, but it is nonetheless a fact.

Perhaps you're right though in the end.  Time will tell.

First off I put a lot of time and effort into amiga.org whilst i was a moderator here, I would of thought my activity on the admin list would prove that I was taking a keen interest in the goings on.

Also I would like to say every news item I have posted here has been to do with a major change or addition.

Also you (wayne) might recall whilst I was a moderator here I enquiered about advertising space for a friend, well at the time I was also interested for myself as I had planned to buy add space once intuitionbase was live. However after the way you have treated me I see zero reason why I should put anything further into this website, esspecially monetary, of which I have very little.

As of now I shall no longer be taking any part in amiga.org, I will no longer post any news items, any new threads or reply to any thread I see here on amiga.org. And after today I will never log back in here.

May Amiga.org die a quick and painless death.
Yours
Darren aka Ryu

All I can say is :

Today A.org got just another tiny bit better !

Thanks Ryu  :-D
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

Ryu, you are acting like a 10 year old child here. The man simply asked you to ease up on the news posting, that's all. You are making it look like he told you to shut the **** up, or something.

You have to remember who's site this really is, and that we are all guests here. You can't come into a person's house and get offended/leave when they ask you to please use a coaster when placing your beer on the table.

The irony of this - and the subsequent reactions - happening on this day will be lost on most people here, and I'm afraid I won't be explaining myself further.

Let's just say I am currently wearing a somewhat wry expression on my face.

Reading this God-forsaken melodrama, I am now completely and totally confused and lost.  Perhaps it's a language barrier?  Perhaps it's an issue with immaturity, perhaps it's an issue where everyone automatically thinks the worst of you for posting here.  In any event, I need to slowly and carefully explain that there has NOT been an insult here.

1) I *do* think he's doing a good job with his Web si.te
2) I *do* wish him luck with it, as I do all talented people who want to support the Amiga (even Amigaworld.net)
3) I *do* feel that if he put as much effort into his former duties with Amiga.org as he now is with his own Web site, Amiga.org would be a better place today.

I sincerely fail to see any negatives in any of this, nor do I see any place where I've insulted anyone to the point to solicit such a reaction from some people here.

Someone PLEASE let me know what language I have to speak in order to get everyone to stop the insanity.  I *can* understand that Ryu is pissed about me removing the news, and he's instantly on the defensive, but I did not insult him, either directly or even indirectly.  I simply stated my viewpoint, and if I am no longer allowed to do so without all this stupidity.... well, nevermind, let's not go there.

So.. You mean you have nothing against Ibase.. That's what you'rer trying to say ?
[/trying to be funny]

perhaps it's an issue where everyone automatically thinks the worst of you for posting here.

I'd say, bingo... Either that, or people just love to b*tch..

@Wayne

This bit:
Quote
I only wished he had respected his former duties and responsibilities to Amiga.org (as an admin) with as much zeal.

...can easily be read to mean "he didn't do his job as admin satisfactorily".

This:
Quote
I *do* feel that if he put as much effort into his former duties with Amiga.org as he now is with his own Web site, Amiga.org would be a better place today.

...is much more clear as to what you actually meant.

When feelings run high, every sentence invariably gets interpreted in the most negative way imaginable. People read, react and think, in precisely that order. Somethimes they even forget to do the last one...
