Floppy Access Causes Screen To Flicker?
« on: June 18, 2004, 03:59:08 AM »
Hi,

I've finally got my Amiga 95% working in my desktop case but I've noticed now that when the Amiga floppy drive is being accessed it causes the screen to noticably flicker accross the center. I think I remember this before if you were to knock on the back of the amiga fairly hard but for some reason the interference now is on all floppy access  :pissed:

Even when the Amiga is at the purple boot screen, the floppy clicking will cause a slight flicker on the TV screen as it clicks :-(

I have my Amiga connected up via the phono sockets to my TV at the moment. I'm assuming an internal scan doubler and flicker fixer should fix this but I want to use my AMiga on my TV at the moment. If I stick a disk in the drive the picture is perfect (for a TV) but on floppy access it's not :-(

Thanks,

Nick

@Nick2K4

I got my A1200Desktop connected to a multi-sys TV(NTSC/PAL). RCA jack. Very clear. The flickering is quite normal on TV's. They don't have enough Hz to keep up thus causing it to flicker, especially in interlace mode. My little fix is to set the color to a minimum just slightly enough in between black and white and set your WB color a little dark. a thin black line and a totally white background causes that flickering effect.
As for your disk access problem, have you tried to distance the TV away from the amiga? I probably causing to interfear with it when both are close. give it a try.
Good day to all Amigans!

@Nick2K4

 My suggestion is to get one of those hacks on Aminet that make the drive stop clicking.....then that flickering will stop, since you said it stops when you insert a floppy?

Also if you use your Amiga on a TV like I do, I suggest getting Visual Prefs, Magic Menu, and Tools Daemon.

Visual Prefs thickens the Border lines and you can change bright white lines to light grey ones and black lines to dark grey. This will seriously reduce flickering on a TV.  Also use a genlock that has S-Video OUT. It looks just as good as a 1084s.......actually better in some cases.
CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...
