Warning ...Bad Amiga EBay seller
« on: June 17, 2004, 03:50:38 PM »
Here's a warning ........

This guy, calls himself 'Terminator3' at sales@nishtek.com

He's passing off PC floppy drives as Amiga HD drives.
I got burned (I know..I should have checked the Mod. No.)

Hereis the link to the one I got burned on.......
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4127612166&rd=1

I filed a complaint with EBay and SquareTrade but I doubt
I'll get my money back.
He responded to my EMails by saying 'AS IS' and implied
the buyer should beware.

Not acceptable, sounds like the item was clearly misrepresented. Did you pay with Paypal? If so you should be able to get your money back through buyer protection.

Did you tell the seller that the drive is not an Amiga drive and ask for a refund?  Is the drive really an High Density Panasonic JU-257A?  E-bay does offer automatic protection up to a certain dollar amount.  - Lars

Yes its HD "PC 1.44" floppy.

Doesn't do me much good especially when I can go down
to the local computer store and buy one for $10.00 or so,
that is 'IF' I even wanted one.

Is it one of those Amtrade converted drives?
If it is, then it will have a small pcb with
attached to the drive's original connector.
The guy on ebay seems legit, so I assume you have
explained the situation to him?  Unfortunately, I didn't
find a floppy drive section on www.amiga-hardware.com.
If I missed it please point me to it.

I just did a search for that particular drive on google.
Evidently some of the Escom/A.T. 1200's shipped with
this model drive.  If it is truely modded for Amiga use
then it should function as a regular DD drive.  I don't
believe 1200s shipped with HD floppy drives.  Have you
tried to use it in any capacity on the Amiga?

I think my A1200 came with that drive.  But, it's not usuable as HD on the Amiga.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Panasonic did make some drives for Amiga Technoligies
(my spelling sucks) anyway yes they made some drives for
AT but as far as I know they only functioned as DD 880's.
Also these drives were labeled 'Amiga'. This IS NOT one
of them. I tried the drive in my A2000 and got the message
'Not a Dos device' or something like that.
I thought the guy seemed OK too by his feedback but when
told him this was a PC drive and I hoped it was just a
mistake he sent me to some links to show me this drive
could be used in an AT Amiga A1200/4000. If you look at
his listing there is NO Mention of Amiga Technoligies.
When I pointed this out to him and also said he should
go back and re-read the links he sent me his last response
was to say "AS IS" and in so many words that the buyer
should beware.
I have submitted a complaint to EBay and SquareTrade.
It was to late to file with PayPal, their time limit is
30 days. I think I would have been 4 or 5 days late anyway.

Is there 2 models of the Panasonic JU-257A?

I just received a Panasonic JU-257A AMiGA drive from e-bay, and it works perfectly although the seller said in it's descrition that this was an 500/500+ drive, it's definetly an A600/A1200 drive.

Do not let this guy give you that "AS IS" B.S.  The fact is that it is NOT an amiga high density drive, and he claimed it was.  The AS-IS part of the deal is irrelevant.  He stated that this drive was a High Density Amiga Floppy, and it is not.  He lied whether it was intentional or not.

AS-IS refers to the condition, and you're not disputing that part.

Tell him you want your money back, or you are reporting him to both ebay and paypal.  Now is a good time to practice being assertive.  The worst that will happen is nothing... the best that will happen is you'll get your money back. You really can't loose by being a jerk at this point. Do your best to be one but be nice first.  If that fails, go after him and make it a hobby for a few weeks.

>Is there 2 models of the Panasonic JU-257A?

Apperantly there is 2 models of the JU-257A.
The PC version and the Amiga version.
From what I've read these drive are labeled 'Amiga' if
they are for Amiga. Slightly different circuitry for
Amiga I guess. Anyway this drive doesn't work in my
C= A2000.
I guess to be fair I don't think this guy knew this drive
wouldn't work. I guessing he found a few of these drives
and thought they would on Amiga. He said he didn't have a
machine to test them. He just got stubborn when I pointed
out that these drives were not the right ones.
