Refesh Icons
« on: June 10, 2004, 07:24:38 PM »
Since I am getting used to the Mediator and Voodoo 3, the Icons refreshing on the screen is as slow as before with AGA.
This isnt normal is it?

Some things are quicker like IconEdit but for Icon refreshing in a window its just as slow as before.  And the backdrop and AmiDock takes a while to load in.

TIA,
Mike....

Not normal at all. Atleast on my 060/60Mhz/Voodoo3, everything is as fast as lightning. Or something like that ;-)

Sorry, this wasn't really helpful.

Well my accelerator is an Apollo MkIII 32 meg fastram!
Would this be any thing to do with the Devs:Monitors/Voodoo icon info settings at all?
I have this in mine.

BOARDTYPE=Voodoo
SETTINGSFILE=SYS:Devs/Picasso96Settings
(BORDERBLANK=Yes)
(BIGSPRITE=Yes)
(SOFTSPRITE=Yes)
IGNOREMASK=Yes
(DISPLAYCHAIN=Yes)

Is this any thing like yours?

TIA,
Mike....

I think you can blame all this on your accelerator. Which today, really should be seen as a decellerator, lol. Having large screens with lots of colors takes a lot of cpu-time to load. And it could be the slowdown is caused by slow reading from your HDD as well.

My voodoo-monitor icon tooltypes:

BOARDTYPE=Voodoo
SettingsFile=SYS:Devs/Picasso96Settings
BorderBlank=NO
BigSprite=NO
SoftSprite=NO
IGNOREMASK=NO
DisplayChain=NO
FakeNativeModes=NO
GrantDirectAccess=NO
NoBlitter=NO
OverClock=NO
MEMORYCLOCK=166
system2screenblits=NO

Do you have latest updates from elbox? Only time my system slows down is when I'm out of voodoo-mem (try availp96-command). And doens't happen often, only when using multiple 1024x768x32bit screens. :-)

I'd also suspect the CPU.  There's really no comparison speedwise between an 030 and an 060.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(
