Oh dear i need help :O(
« on: June 07, 2004, 02:26:19 AM »
Ok just to cut a long story short i think i have put a startup-sequence line in the wrong place and now my amiga resets.I need to change it with edit pad so i wired my amiga to my tv as my voodoo aint supporting the screen mode the amiga is going in.It goes on about how its trying to shut down the windows then loads in some icons and then resets. It just keeps doing that over and over again,so i loaded wb3.1 in but it wont let me load in edit pad that way.I hope someone can help because as of now i didnt really have a way to backup my hard drive so that is gonna be a lot of work to do if i need to reinstall it..
Thanks
Gav
Actually it cones up software failure then resets.

Hold both mouse buttons and get into the 'Early Boot Menu'. When you are in there click 'Start with no Startup Sequence'. For this you need the original video out.

When you get that far select the path of your HD and the S folder. Then type ED STARTUP-SEQUENCE

Good luck!
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Try booting from the HD in question without Startup-Sequence from the Early Boot Menu (hold down both mouse buttons).

Then type 'cd s:' then 'ed startup-sequence'.

Now you can edit the s-s line by line with the Amiga's most awful but least demanding text editor :-).

-edit-
Redrum was faaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAster ;-).

Have you tried using the Early Startup Menu. There should be an option to boot without the startup sequence. From there you should be able to use Ed to edit the startup-sequence to remove what you need.

--- edit ---
Damn, you guys are fast and almost verbatim.

Ok just forget all of the above as i sorted it but here is my next problem.I moved my tower a bit so im thinking somthing has became slack inside???
Well on the early start up menu under expansion board diagnostic it only has two boards listed???
Before it had three of them, here they are,Board numder 1,manufactuer 2206,product 40,status working...The next one is,Board umber 1,2206,168,working.I dont wanna go poking at it not really knowing what has came off,tho on boot when it resets the screen goes red for a moment.
Thanks

From here: 'If there is something wrong with your system you may see the following colours.

    * Red: An error was found in the ROM.
    * Green: An error was found in Chip ram.
    * Blue: An error was found in the custom chips.
    * Yellow: The CPU has found an error before the error trapping software (Guru) has been activated.

These problems could be caused by a number of things such as a loose chip or board. The red screen may be caused by a loose Kickstart chip that can be fixed by pressing down on the ROM to check it is fitted correctly. Another cause could be a connection problems between the chip and socket that can be solved by straightening an bent pins. Alternatively, the green screen could be caused by a loose memory board, SIMM, or a loose RAM chip on the memory board. If reattaching these chips do not solve the problem, try them on another Amiga.'

If there's something loose(ish) it will result in very erratic behaviour I'd say (just like human beings :-P). Loose IDE cable and/or powerflyer perhaps? (Assuming we're discussing the setup in your setup).

2206 is the manufacturer code for Elbox.
So it looks like the powerflyer and mediator are working ok, but no sign of an accelerator card.

I`d remove the 060 card, clean the expansion port and reset it.
Red screens aren`t always a ROM problem, I had an old Apollo do that when it kept coming loose. :pissed:
On schedule, and suing

Ok i tried it without the card and yeah it works but says ram disk is full of course. So i try again with the 060 in place but no luck.I then used an 030 card to see what would happen then and it gets upto the workbench screen then flashes a color and resets. Then it loads up again and work but i go into the screenmode and there is only its native modes there to select. So why does it get that far with an 030 but not the 060?Also why are there no other screen modes? It also says cant load mixer.lib which i know is for the soundcard but it is in place. This has me so puzzled i mean all this happend just after that stupid startup like i mucked up with.I really dont get it :(
Thanks ppl, before it had 3 products in the early startup then once again it only had two and this was with the 1230 attached to it.

Now in the startup are baord 1 & 2 but one number is 8512 and the other is 2206 elbox like you said but which one??Mediator or the power flyer????

Update......Ok forget it because i dont think it is a hardware problem as i just put everything back and all 3 items are in the menu but my amiga keeps crashing. It gets right to the end of the boot i mean even my zip drive gets ready to start then the screen flashes and goes red then keeps reseting with those blizzard 060 colors.
So does anyone know how by me erasing a startup like makes such a huge mess????
See i put the birdie 2000 line in the wrong place which was when i got software failure so i got in there and erased it and put it in its correct place. So all was well i thought but i was wrong. Now i cant even get into os3.9 to see what is wrong since it just resets but why does it get into the os with an 030 and not the 060???
At first it will load then reset with the 030 but then it loads up and as i said i have limted selection of screen modes. If i load wb3.1 i can see all my files but thats pretty much a waste of time really as i cant do much from that.Boot with no startup sequence???Well when i do that i just get a dos screen and thats it..I cant be botherd to install 3.1 and then 3.9 as i dont know what happend to my emergency disk so if anyone has any good ideas then id be very thankful.
Thank you all again.
