reliving my childhood...

WinUAE - absolutely amazing.

I have just rediscovered this amazing piece of software, having once discarded it as a viable alternative to a real Amiga about 6/7 years ago. The emulation in those days really was absolutely awful. But now, it is absolutely superb! Practically every single one of my old games runs perfectly well. I can't really think of any reason to keep my old A500 now - I'll probably sell that on Amibench now!

Shadow of the Beast, Pinball Dreams. OMG - GODS! I feel so happy again...

I'm guessing that Amiga OS 4.0 will have UAE integrated, and that the level of emulation will be just as good, if not better than WinUAE - would I be correct? If that's the case, then my sister will definitely be inheriting this PC, and I will get myself a nice MicroA1 (when they become available)!

I love Amiga...

You'll be disappointed to hear this. :-(

OS4 doesn't emulate any of the original Amiga's custom hardware, just the CPU. So while you can play some more recent games that were designed for use on graphics cards, you won't be able to just run any old Amiga game from floppy.

Obviously you can run UAE on top of OS4, but that's subject to all the same restrictions as running it on Windows. (You can't directly access floppies, etc.)

How about stuffing a Catweasel Flipper in your OS4 or Windoze box?

LOL @ your avatar.

Damn, that is a shame. I'd be fine with running UAE on top of OS4, but I am concerned about what I have heard about WinUAE versus other version of UAE. Apparently, non-Windows versions of UAE are not as sophisticated as WinUAE. Painfully ironic how the new Amiga would not be as good at running Amiga software (classic stuff) than a Windows based PC  :-(

Why would you want all of the functionality of WinUAE? You won't need bsdsocket-emulation, CD-ROM-emulation, gfx-card emulation and so on. All you need is a version of UAE that are able to play the old games.

That's true HotRod. I guess I'm just assuming that when people say WinUAE is more sophisticated than other UAE's, they mean that it is better able at running old games. If that isn't the case, then I'm still on for a uA1 with OS4. Damn, I just can't wait!

Anybody know when the uA1 is likely to come out, and when the final version of OS4 is gonna be out too?

I'd say the final version of OS4 would be out before the end of the year.
My original prediction was January 2005, people laughed but I think its a fairly good guess.

I wonder if it is possible to get WHDLoad working on the AmigaOne???  That would be way cool.  It uses Kickstart images for some emulation on some games.

Richard Drummond is busy to bring the other UAE versions up to speed with the WinUAE version. You can find more information on his UAE page.
Trust me...                                              I know what I\'m doing
