When you copy files from pc there usually are no .info files on it so if you click on the floppy nothing will show up, unless you go to the menu on top and select ´show all files´...

On wb3.1 you can see files without .info files, but wb1.3 doesn't show up anything. Use CLI/SHELL.

Have you tried going to the disk in IconEdit and seeing if any files appear in there?  :-?

If you`re just copying files over, try formatting the floppy on the A500 first. I vaguely remember hearing about disks formatted with a newer filesystem causing problems on older machines.

If you`re making a disk from an adf image, it might be in a custom format not readable by AmigaDos.If that`s the case the only way to use it is to boot from it.
On schedule, and suing

i did format disk in a500 dont know if it is in custom format because if I type the name of the file in shell it does load then software failure happens.

WB1.3 is notoriously hard to get by. There are issues concerning how to format in workbench 1.3. It's in OFS(Original File System). The workbench 3.1, it's in FFS (Fast File System) which is not compatible when viewed in WB1.3.
The trick is(i'm assuming these are not NDOS file system or disk drive head is clean or not deffective) run a simple directory program that is compatible with your Workbench 1.3. Mine is Dirworks. They can 'SEE' every files even the '*.info' once. You can put that on both the WB1.3 and WB3.1 workbench disk. Oh, make sure it's a copy of Workbenches you're using, cause diskkettes easily break(it often cause track error and such once used more too often). Remember! Original WBdisks are hard to get these days.
I'm just curious, does your A500 have a Hard drive in it? If so that would be much easier to swap between two systems,.. err three systems.
If they are non-dos disk, I suggest get a TransADF from Aminet. So you could store it on RAM(temp) or Hard drive, and later tranfer to a PC formatted disk.(Again, I assume you format the PC disk in 720K). Wait come to think of if it, adf's are 901kb big. You'll need also LHA to compress it. Man, you're going to busy the whole day doing this process. Other wise there are better solutions to this. Anyway, hope this bit of info could help you start it. Good luck bro! :-D

Yes thanks for the reply,he a500 has a hardrive and has opus installed can read the disks through their. But I was wondering why the files arent visible naturally once transferred to hardrive.Anyway am trying to link up the a500 to pc with null modem cable, had to make one, so far no good getting a connection with twinexpress.Probably due to my terrible soldering.I will buy some more connectors and try again unless their is a way without soldering??.once sorted will put 2000 on network a500 is easier to cart around at the moment.

hmm ist such a long time I used OS1.3. I hope I'm not on thewrong way. Oly files with their coresponding xxx.info file will show up under workbench.

Open a shell/cli and type "list df0:" or "dir df0:" and you will see your files. wb1.3 didn't have a entry "show all files" like OS2.0x-OS3.x.

Don't use ffs to fromat your disk. Unless you create a mountlist entry for ff0: AND (!!!) copying the fastfilesystem from the newer OS aof the A2000 to the a500.

All fastfilesystem up to OS3.9 should be OS1.3 compatible.

I am trying to transfer files to my amiga 500 by copying files to cd on pc

2 problems here I suppose.. Do the programs work on the A2000 ? Do they have the same icons on the A2000 or does each program have it's own special icon ?

Depending on the CD format used the icon files (the .info files) get renamed to .inf files (8.3 MS-Dos / ISO1), so you'l have to rename the .inf files back to .info..

/Edit

See we allready knew the program runs on your A2000 now  :-D  http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9204

Oh, to rename the files, open a CLI or a SHELL, go to the dir where your files are.. Type dir and see if there are indeed .inf files... If yes, type

rename filename.inf to filename.info

or was it

rename filename.inf as filename.info ?

OS 3.x spoiled us...

I have 1.3 on a couple of my machines and it's dirt simple to get an icon for files. You can "copy as" in Dopus any icon for a similar file and change the name to the file that has no icon. If you have Dopus on the a500 there should even be a button that says "icon info" on it and the right click on that button will reveal a button to creat an icon for the file which is highlighted. Not a problem. I do like the later OSs that gave you the ability to supply icons for all files in the View drop down. Pretty neat stuff. I STILL prefer my Amiga to any other OS I have used. Maybe it's the same kind of mentality that won't let me sell my 1960 Willys pick up even tho it hasn't moved since three years ago. I just KNOW that when I put on the brake master cylinder and water pump the old beast will fire up smokily but rumble down the drive, just like my vanilla A2000 w/OS 1.3 will fire up and me and Moria 3.0 will wile away the afternoon.... :-D
