Buying an A1200 - Or not?
« on: May 31, 2004, 07:58:43 PM »
Hi there. I'm in need of some help on deciding what to do.

I want to buy an Amiga 1200, but I'm with serious difficulties doing so. I have two chances so far, none of them too appealing, but I must decide between them if nothing better comes up.

- I can buy a very cheap A1200 through eBay on UK. Trouble is, postage from there to Portugal is around 50€, and that without any kind of insurance. So, it goes to around €75 if I buy it real cheap and with insured postage.

- I found out here in Portugal a new A1200, wich goes for about 150€. Since it's new, I suppose it has the full 2 year warranty, and the regular software/accesories and brand new package.

So, here's my problem. Should I go for the €75 used Amiga in UK, with all the risks it poses me? Or should I go for the safe bet and pay €150 for a new A1200 with the 2 year warranty?  :-?
If it buzzes, bleeps and has at least two blinking lights, heck, I want one!!!  :-o

If the "new" A1200 has already Kickstart 3.1 installed I would buy the new one.
Most A1200 on E-Bay have kickstart 3.0 installed, so buying a Kickromset is more or less needed.

And I guess that the new one has a HerdDisk installed

I noticed the other day that Vesalia have A1200s with Magic Pack and UK keyboards for just over 60GBP. They even do new ones with OS3.5 preinstalled.

Anywhere in Europe (not counting with UK, the postage is just too expensive) where I can buy one of those?

Why not just save up and get a Pegasos or an A1? With OS4 Pre not out its a much better option I would think.
