Beer!
« on: May 29, 2004, 08:03:18 PM »
Here's an appropriate one for a holiday weekend.

Am just in from the gym and am sitting down to catch up on emails and enjoy a damn good beer :-)

I's a bottle of "Spitfire" courtesy of Shepherd Neame (advertising slogan: No Fokker comes close).

What's all your favourite poisons?  Any reccomendations out there?

Mmmm, having pleasant thoughts about drinking Guinness now.  Better let my dinner go down a bit :-)

I was never particularly romantic about beer. I just drank whatever was available.

And then I didn't. :-)

Admittedly a while back I had to go without many foods and drinks.  I missed tea more than alcohol.  As the shoe is now on the other foot, I'd miss alcohol more than tea :-)

And anyway, Guinness is more healthy than most teas :-)

Yes, but tea isn't sold in 0,5 litre servings per person normally ;-).

I am romantic about beer. Not the 'binge-drinking' way of romance, but more alike 'tea-drinking' way of romance.
Coffee is different. I need coffee so about 10 o'clock in the morning (not earlier)

So am I.  I've been a member of CAMRA (CAMpaign for Real Ale) in my time and have tried many different ales / beers etc.  There's nothing nicer than a light, hoppy ale on a Summer evening - something like Hopback's Summer Lightning is just what the odctor ordered.

I've tried a few continental beers too, I love stuff like Hoegaarden and other types of white beer.

I think it's time for another bottle of Spitfire....

Can't forget those evenings, with a slight red teint on the face, in the smooth fading red sun...
(I need a good vacation..)

There's a bet you'd lose.

Caffeine increases blood pressure, as well as stimulating the digestive system (usually when people are looking to 'come down' rather than up).  A nice way to encourage digestive ulcers.

Guinness was actually given out in hospitals to long-stay patients as it gave many of the minerals necessary to line the digestive tract without the harmful effects of the average lager.

Just as a by-the-way nugget of info, I've been advised to drink Guinness to provide for certain parts of my diet :-)
