Perhaps UK banks know they can do what ever they please, since UK residents are mostly suckers.

No, this is quite clearly the result of capitalist exploitation.
:-D Of course it is! It's never the fault of stupid consumers!

Its not a case of being suckers or anything else, its a case of there being no impitus on the part of the banks to improve, I mean, where else would you go to except another bank with equally {bleep}ty service. Its not just one or two banks, its all of em!

The government feels that "self regulation" is the best thing for the consumer, which in reality that all the big bosses go to one meeting each year and share their rape statistics. The problem is that until the government (because we are meer consumers) gives them a firm kicking, they will continue on as they are.

So use a building society !!

Actually I'm with the Halifax,  Been with them since ... er ...  A long time  (even got shares, which I cashed in).

To me ... Barclays are the pits .  In 1981  (I think it was)  I had my cheque book go missing.  I immediately put a stop on it and waited for my new one to be mailed to me.

It was summer holidays 1981 .. I was working at Hotpoint who pay 200% holiday pay (still do)  so my two weeks money was actually a months money  (woohoo).

Two days later I got a bank statement saying I was £200 in the red ... I thought .. {bleep}S ..thats impossible.. I dont have ANY standing orders or direct debits etc.

tow days after that .. I get another statement saying I'm  £700 in the red ???????????

Mum says .. "get down the bank",  DEMAND to see the manager.  This I duly did.

Turns out they had honoured cheques from the missing cheque book after I had put a stop to it.  The culprit turned out to be a (so called) mate who I would have trusted my life with.  He was going into the bank (Barclays) writing them out at the counter as "Pay Cash".  When no more funds were available he hit the shops spending UP TO £50. each transaction.

The bank duly called the police ..  Wheels in motion.

But they acted so fast that they hadn't got all the cheques collected..  They only admitted to the first £300,  Saying he's already been tried for the offence.  We cant "do him twice".

I had to stump up the rest.  As it was a current account ALL my money naturally got paid into it.  they FROZE my account so I didn't have a bean until it was ALL paid off.  No money for the rent (I had my own pad) .. No money for food..

NOTHING.

I had to go to the provi  and {bleep} about a hotpoint staff sale to buy a fridge (so they would give me cash) for £200 to live on.

NEVER AGAIN will I have ANYTHING to do with Barclays.

Friendliest bank for me  (I think it was a bank ..long time ago)  Was the R & I in western Australia.

Thinking back to that event ..

It was actually his girlfriend who did the absolute verification.

I knew her pretty well from CB "eyeballs"  We had a huge Eyeball here in Peterborough called "Zulu Xray"  Thousands of people were members..

Including all of us  (hey, it was the hip thing).

Her handle was the Paper Lady  (Penni Lounds) because her family was into the Media .. Her father was a freelance videographer,  Her brother a photographer ..etc.

I was the "Billy Whizz"  because i was a speedway rider.

She enquired from bob  (Bobcat . her boyfriend) .. where are you getting all this money for these pressies you keep buying?  To which he replied HE was a speedway rider .. ( I was HIS mechanic).  She thought no more about it until she saw me a while later.

She was livid. And promptly verified everything to the Police..  It was the first time a female I had known had stuck up for me (for anything) against HER loved one  ( THEN).

If you saw the court case in Peterborough involving Ian Huntly & Maxine Carr (Soham murders) where a girl ran forward and banged the side of the van...

THAT was the "Paper Lady"  (Penni Lounds).

But that's where you're wrong.

To say that all customers are dissatisfied with their bank(s) would be a huge generalization.

I'm not the only person who is happy with the particular bank I'm with(Was "Bank of Melbourne", now "Westpac").

There are crap banks, but there are good ones also. (I live in Australia, BTW)

Perhaps it really is just the UK that is like that. OR, perhaps it's just you guys... it's really too small a sample of customers to know.

The fact is that I have a quality banking service.

I walk in the bank fairly happy - I walk out with a huge grin on my face. NOT because of the women there, but because of the fine job they are doing. They BY FAR exceed my expectations just about every time.

No joke.

Some people will keep complaining about the bank that they are with - but never change.

It's usually the same one here - "The Commonwealth Bank"

It doesn't matter how bad it gets, it's always very popular! There are huge lines of people at the ATM's. WHY wait for so long?

These people who complain about the huge fees etc. (and they do have large fee's) are the same ones who will wait 10 mins to get to the ATM - and they complain about that, too.

Not I. If I'm using the ATM, I walk straight up (there are some very convenient ATM locations for the bank I'm with) get my money - or do whatever I'm doing - and go

My charges have always been either very low, or NILL. (For my personal account, that is, my business account is expensive, but worth it)

Their charges have been high. (For a very basic personal account)

I don't understand some people.

:-(

I believe that looks CAN kill.

It's not women. Or at least, not women in general.

It's just the most attractive ones (rated ~ >90%) that really get my blood pressure up!

I do need to do something about it. It's a real problem at times for me :(

This is one of the main reasons that I will most likely end up as an eccentric old hermit. (Either that, or I'll be desperate enough to end up with the last herroin addicted fat escaped mental patient slut)

The UK tends to get a bad deal from companies in a lot of things (Petrol, cars, banking, internet, all electrical goods... the list goes on), perhaps as you say because we're suckers, perhaps because of blatantly lax regulation (thats been in place in many cases for decades) perhaps because of a lack of alternative.

Building societies tend to be every bit as bad as banks in the customer satisfaction stakes over here. Like I said, without teath, regulators are worthless, and without any real competition (because as I said, they simply match each other) they simply will not change.
