Hi all

Just wondering whatever happened to FinalWriter.  Did development for it cease?  What are the best alternatives? AmiWriter or WordWorth 7? Also is it possible to get upgrades for FinalWriter?

IIRC last FW was the 1997 edition, Wordsworth 7 is old but still is a good WP, as for Amiwriter(h&p) the GUI looked that bad it just made me never load that thing up again,

I wish WW was still being developed.

FinalWriter....

The developer of FinalWriter, and owner of SoftWood, is now doing softcore porn.  Further, he set the price pretty high for FinalWriter, so it would be financially difficult to acquire the rights.

WordsWorth was created by Digita, who is now running some sort of online commerce/banking system in the UK.

Of the two, I would suspect that WW would be the easiest to get back.  I seem to remember some third party company getting the rights to FW (temporarily/permanantly?) to do a windows port and an amiga CD called "FinalOffice".  I'm not sure how the pieces fell for FW after that.  Since it seems pretty clear that Digita still has the rights to WW, it may be the easiest to get back.

There is some sort of office system that is being ported to AOS4/MOS.  Not sure of the particulars.  Also, there is a team working on OpenOffice; however, I don't know about their progress.

I still have "Final Writer for Windoze 95" which I remember to be a genuine Softwood release. Doesn't help us here though, so back to the drawing board ?

FinalWriter Rocked !!

I used to use it to create the video boxcovers for the weddings/functions I used to film. ( I use Mediaface now)

I tried using WordWorth a few times but because I knew my way round FW I always ended up going back to that proggie.

A bit like ImageFX & Photogenics.  IMO  IFX is far more powerful but because I got on the "PG train" first I always end up using that for what I need to do.  ( I've still got the PG T-shirt & Almathera manual.. Which I MUCH prefer over "online" manuals).

When I get my PPC "solution" I would LOVE an updated ppc native port of the mentioned proggies.

I have Final Writer 4(?) and Wordworth 7. I haven`t used Final writer that much, but it seems quit
good, but Wordworth I do like. Its a damn good application, just like all Digita stuff, but it is
just too damn slow on 68k processors. When I did do assignments for college etc on it, I`d write it
in GoldED then copy n paste it into Wordworth.

Yes, Wordworth wouldbe good if it wasnt so slow.
But with almost everyone now having PPCs I guess this is no longer an issue.

FW97 is a very good program. Fast too (even on a '030,
although a 060 helps when moving large amounts of texts
around). I have the swedish version, one of the last Amiga
programs to be completely converted to swedish (even
with a huge swedish printed manual), but I have the english
language setting as well. The DTP functions are more than
sufficient for me. I even did an advanced RP character
sheet from scratch in FW97.
 
Unfortunately it tends to be somewhat unstable on my
setup. Sometimes it just freezes, particularily when editing
in the middle of large text masses. I have never heard
anyone else having that problem though.
 
At any rate, FW will be the first program I transfer over to
my AmigaONE.

Too be honest, I still use Final Writer 97 - a fantastic program.  Its fast, and works quite well.  It is true that there are other, newer word processors out there, FW is my favorite.  Mind you, I use CED for about 90% of my word processing tasks, then copy it into FW for layout, fonts and printing.

But thats me.  I'm a text editor type of guy. ;-)

I agree with the moderator, altough FW97 is several years old, it is still the hands down best word processor on any platform.  MSWord is so quirky, I find it virtually unusable for anything with complex graphics or intricately formatted text.  

I've love to see an update to FW97 but as it stands it is still the best there is.

I have FinalCopy II (I had an A500 at the time, now an expanded A1200), but my problem with it is that the fonts generally really do look terrible and probably a bit out of proportion.  If there was some way to correct that...

(since I got the A1200 I also have WordWorth 4 SE that came with the pack)

Wordworth7 Ruled!
I think there would still be a chance with Digita.  Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Wordworth7 come out for the Amiga only.
And Wordworth was recognized on the PC, so from the recognition from the public point of view it would be great too!
Fingers crossed that Digita will license the rights to some Amiga company to OS4
