Last 20 minutes of Matrix Revolutions **SPOILERS**
« on: May 26, 2004, 08:33:15 AM »
What on earth is going on? :-?

Call me slow, but for various reasons I only got to see Matrix Revolutions for the first time last night!

**SPOILERS**

I just about managed to follow it up to the point where Trinity dies, including all that weird stuff with the train station and the asian girl with her father, but in the last twenty minutes I got rather confused!

Neo is connected to the matrix by that huge thingy whose face is made up of thousands of those sentinels, and we see him appear in the matrix in a street surrounded by thousands of Agent Smiths. Lots of rediculous over-the-top fighting follows (*yawn* *yawn*) and then it ends up with Agent Smith and Neo in the crater in the road. Smith is saying something along the lines of "Yes, I've been here before! Now where is it I'm supposed to stand? What is it I'm supposed to say?" and he sticks his hand in Neo (steady!) and Neo gets that black stuff crawling all over him towards his face and he is turned into another Agent Smith. But then we see Neo (outside the Matrix) get pulses of energy sent through him and Smith (back in the Matrix) starts to panic, and then all the Agent Smiths are destroyed from the inside by bright intense light. Cue cheesy and 'emotional' last few minutes of the film.

Huh?

So what is the explanation for Smith being destroyed? And what happens to Neo in the end?

Any explanations/theories welcome!

Steve.

Crap film.

Watch the Martix, enjoy... avoid the sequels.

indeed.

i think it's something really lame like "Neo got energy back from the sentinel commander person", or "Neo got energy from Trinity's death to save the world"

i thought it got {bleep}ed up when the architect came in lol

Basically, when Smith takes over a person, part of that person is still residual in there.  Once Smith had realised that he'd seen the end and he positioned himself he said something (I can't remember what) then looked confused.

The Smith that Neo was fighting used to be the Oracle, and she was the one who said those words, not Smith.  Neo knew this and realised that he would still have some presence even after Smith had take over his body.

Neo allowed Smith to take over his body and once that was done the Source (for lack of a better word) was able to kill off Smith (like a virus) through the direct link it had with Neo.

That's why you see the Oracle at the end of the scene.

Hope that clears it up a little.  I had a doc file that explained it a bit better than that, but I can't find it.  As soon as I do, I'll post it :-)

Cheers Vincent, it seems I DID understand what was going on after all. I mean, after suffering for something like 90 minutes of crap, you're half asleep when the semi intelligent story begin to roll out in the end.

The sad thing is that the first movie isn't as enjoyable to watch once you've watched the two last movies. Personally I think Animatrix is better suited as a 'sequel' to the first Matrix, even though some of the stories in it are quite thin aswell...

Btw, do you think they licenced the design of the fighter bots from Warhammer 40k? Ohh, btw, who was the stupid designer that put the 'pilots' out in the open when using those rediculous bots... Help, I'm reliving my worst movie memories!!!  :-x

That was my thought when I saw them in Reloaded :-D

I'm sure my orcs could do with some of those, that'd mean that my dreadnoughts would be like killer kanz to them :-D

It wasn't the designer, it was a major plot point to give the kid something a bit more worthwhile to do in the battle, and it's one of those typical revelatory moments where the hard-ass guy lets it known that he isn't as hard-ass as everyone thinks.  Kinda spoilt it imo, but seeing the kid running in it "light as a feather, light as a feather" was kinda funny :-)

Many thanks Vincent! I would NEVER in a million years have worked that out for myself! :-)

It's a bit of an obscure ending though, don't you think? I wonder how many 'casual' viewers understood it, as opposed to die-hard Matrix fans? (I class myself as somewhere in between!)

I was wondering that myself! All it would take is a stray bullet or a piece of shrapnel hitting the 'pilot', and the huge fighting machine would be disabled!

Tis a bit obscure and unexplained, but that's part of the reason I like it.  It doesn't just end with a fight and it's all daisies after that.  Neo gets killed at the same time as Smith and Neo gets returned to the source to be taken apart and figured out so they can make a next messiah.

Not many films end with the hero and the villain being killed by a creature you've only just met for the first time :-D

Neo died?!!! I didn't think it was particularly clear either way. We see him lying down and those probe things removing themselves from him, but I'd just assumed he was knackered!

Did it show/explain that, or is it a theory? I think I need to watch it again, I seemed to have missed loads!

Yup, the whole point of Neo was to give people outside of the Matrix hope, something to believe in.  He would then return to the source (right after meeting the Architect - the previous incarnations of "the one" all met the architect and they all chose the door to the source where Zion will be rebuilt aqnd the whole thing would start all over again).  Neo would then be taken apart and analysed by the machines who then use the new information to make their crops and the Matrix itself more productive.  Wht you see at the end is the machine taking him away for dissassembly.

I think you'd have to watch both 2 and 3 again (and possibly the first) - more things are implied than actually shown.  The film actually forces you to think about what's happened instead of saying "oh yeah that happened because of blah and then they blah blah blah'd"

1 doesn't really say that much except explain the Matrix itself, and to let Neo start to come of age.  Parts 2 and 3 don't really explain things, but all the answers are implied somewhere in the films.

/me trundles off to find that doc... :-)
