Really dumb PPaint question
« on: May 13, 2004, 11:01:41 PM »
ok, I have PPaint 6 on my A3000, and 7.1 on UAE (from one of the last Amiga Format cover CDs).  I can't for the life of me work out how to get 7.1 to use the RTG, and the A3000 is safely stored in boxes while my house gets rearranged - I know it's going to be obvious, but how the heck do you do this?

Can you use 256-color RTG screens with other apps,WB?
Can you use 8-bit screens in windows?
I had the same problem, no 8-bit rtg screenmodes showed up in the screenmode requester. It was because of some stupid little graphiccard utility that had been installed in my WinXP which prevented me from using 8-bit screens.

Windows doesn't display 8 bit as an available mode, but resorts to it in 'Safe Mode' (XP with a Radeon Mobile); Workbench will run in it happily though - it works now!

I fuzzily remember something about this on the old A3000, but I've always set that at high resolution/low colours to keep the speed up (poor old 3640 isn't up to both).  Funny how easy it is to forget just how much work customising a computer takes ...

Thanks Dan :-)

If you can get a 8-bit mode for WB , then you can get it for windows too, look under advanced button>graphics card> show all modes
I can go down to 640x480 16colors in windows(if i wanted)

@Holley

In PPaint 7, use the menu Project/Image Format.
A list of screen modes will be shown, just chose
one. Then menu Settings/Save.

Mmmm, though the only reason I can think of is running old games (in which case I can select it under the compatibility mode options on a per-program basis).  All the old serious programs I run are in Dos.

@sundown Thanks, though setting the screenmode to 256 colours seems to have made it default to the current mode :-) Shame the buttons are stretched, ho hum ... nice to see someone on here that knows who Ed Roth is!

wasn't there some library you could get from Cloanto for this?  Check aminet, I think they provided it up there, you could use it to replace the default one....

There's a patch for 7.1c on Aminet, along with other patches.  Guess I'll update it on my A3000 too, when it's safely back on my desk! (painting the sprog's bedroom this weekend, first stage towards getting it sorted).
