Hi,

Allright, allright. Yes, I do have a Windowsbox. Yes, and I'm using it on a rather frequent and prolonged base.
The good thing about it, is that I've recently changed from Internet Explorer (oh, horror of horrors) to Opera. Anyone still using IE? Go for Opera! As fast as you can! When you don't mind advertisements popping up every now and then, it is free. Otherwise pay a very modest 26Euri or come to that. A very good investment in something otherwise rather sick.
The main reason is: it is very, very fast! You'll be surprised, just like I was and still am.

But IE did something very funny the other day. Whenever I set it up to open up to my favourite site, i.e. case www.amiga.org, it simply reinstalls another default site, some homeportal thing. Something, I found out, is simply overwriting that hopeless registry thing for that particular key!
Anyone any idea about what to look for?

Second, it keeps rejecting a setup for Google-search facilities. Instead it keeps producing a MySearch-bar no matter howmuch, howmany, howoften I change the settings.
Again, anyone any idea?

AdWare 6.0 and NAV-2004 both updated to the latest standard give no solution.

For the IE prob give CWShredder a go:

Apparently Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D and HijackThis can't always find the offending registry entry for these search bars.

Urgh, Opera sucks.

As to the browser Opera, I've used it once and heard other people say good things about it, but I'm a Mozilla devotee myself. I don't not use IE simply because its M$, just cos it sucks, IMHO of course :-)

I'm am Opera (the browser) fan - using it right now at work.

Just thgought I'd mention that adverts don't 'pop-up' on you, there's just a small banner in the toolbar that displays ads.  I don't even notice it now.

'Tis very fast.  I keep meaning to try mozilla as well.

I never use IE.
in fact in my ZoneAlarm settings I have IE FORBIDDEN (red [color=FF0000]X[/color]) to have internet access.

I don't notice the "ads", and it's very fast, has these great mouse gestures, sessions, tabs, the list goes on.

basically, anything that is not that piece of cr$p IE is good to use.

I could never go back to IE now, no tabbed browsing, no sessions, no customisable toolbar in almost any way you want, need a seperate (usually crap) pop-up blocker.....

I used to love opera but i now mainly use mozilla firefox its even better than opera and does not crash, a lot of  plugins can be downloaded to get it how you want it without being full of rubbish you dont want,password manegement in mozzila is even better than opera .

I have all them and more with mozzilla.
i have a custom search bar with all search engines and sites i use even ebay, plus an rss reader a briliant adbloker a dictionry search just type dict in adress bar and word after it to search dictionary.com and plugins to reload page at diffrent timed interverls.

another good browser wich can be used on sites meant for ie only is avant .

my Opera doesn't crash, but the really important point to to NEVER use IE.
and mozilla is fine, everything is fine. I have a friend who still is using and updating Netscape.
I think you can use tabs in Netscape but he never does...but then he's not a gui guy. he's an IT, nerd-type. learned on UNIX and Likes to type   :lol:

When I watch him work, I remind him he doesn't multitask!

Also, Opera + Trillian + middle mouse button makes Opera crash a bit.

Funny that, I do that regularly and have Winamp, GetRight and occasionally PSP and Photoshop running at the same time and Opera's usually fine :-)

Camino is the best browser I have ever used, and I use it all the time. Stable as hell, functional and loads all web pages i've tried.

that may be a good idea. After I had made my laptop mutiboot and reinstalled Windows, I started using Opera and I try very hard to keep my windows as clean as possible. I'm sure that's the main reason I have had no problems in the last year and a half.

Don't use IE. it will only bring in more cr&p.

get a clean install of windows, use the most stable Opera (7.23), use ZoneAlarm and Away you go! :lol:

Tried Opera for a little while around 6.0, didn't really like it..

Yeah, I love Opera too. I am stunned how 7.50beta can be even faster. I tried Mozilla (which is great too) for a while and went back to Opera after about a day because of all the little considerations that Opera has in the interaction side of things.

For example, in Opera closing a tab returns you to the PARENT tab, in Mozilla (version I tried) you go to the next tab TO THE LEFT on the bar meaning you have to navigate and select the parent one (EVERY time). In Opera you can open in same window, open in new window etc. all from a right-click, and mouse gestures are great, you can navigate and hardly ever move the mouse. Mozilla was nice but too many two or three click actions, or right-across-page navigations that were faster in Opera.
