A3000(D) Expansion Options
« on: May 11, 2004, 04:43:32 PM »
Hi Folks,

I have kind of a dumb question. I have an A3000 desktop with 2MB chip and 4MB fast mem. I want to expand the memory a little, even a few more megs of fast would be enough. I have some A2000 expansion hardware lying about that I removed from my 2000 when I created my KS1.3 gaming system. Can I use any of the memory expansion cards in my A3000? The zip rams are a little hard to find and it would be nice to get some use out of one of these other cards.

Thanks,
- Mike

Are they ZorroII memory boards? They should work, but only to a maximum of 8MB. And I don't think they'll be very fast. Better than nothing, though.

As for ZIPs, Mr. Hardware sell some ZIP replacement chips. They're not original ZIPs, but a contemporary replacement for them. Don't know how well they work, but it's another option.

Your best bet is to find an accelerator that supports adding SIMMs.

The board that I want to use has 2MB installed.

Would I damage the A3000 if I plugged this board in just to test it out? If not, it's worth a shot I guess for the moment until I get something else.

Thanks for the help,
Mike

the only thing i can see it damaging is the board itself not the 3000, if u have no particular use for the board anymore then give it a shot

good luck.

If it plugs into a Zorro slot, it should be fine. If you need to make connections to other chips, then you may have problems. What kind of board is it? A 2058?

I believe it's a "MicronTech" 2 MB Ram board. I might have the company name wrong, but, the board is a non-expandable 2MB board, all surface mount technology.

The board works in my A2000, but, I don't really need it in there.

Is this it? That should work fine in a 3000.
