Amiga 3000(D) ROM Sockets
«

Does anyone know why there are 4 sockets on the A3000 mainboard for ROMs? Is there something more that can go in there?
Thanks,
Mike

I think the A3000 was going to have a built-in ROM switcher at one point in time. Don't think the circuitry needed for this is on the motherboard, though.

I was always under the impression they were intended for something to do with running Unix, as some core libraries wouldn't have fitted on two :-?

Those extra sets were intended as a future upgrade, but they never did anything with it. They are just dead sockets and were actually removed on later revisions of the boards. Just the solder pads remained.
