Which Ethernet Card for A4000
« on: May 06, 2004, 07:20:04 PM »
Hello,
I'm looking for an ethernet card for my A4000. I'm not quite sure about the products, though.
What do you recommend? I've come across Xsurf and Ariadne. Anyone using either of them?

Looking for some suggestions.

If you want USB *and* Ethernet, the Algor+Norway combo is IMO the best price for money (you'll get 3 USB ports, 10MBit via RJ45 and 512KB FlashRom, all in one zorro slot).

Hi :-)

I'm using an X-Surf card as I type that message :-) works like a charm :-D since more than two year now in my A4000 (see my profile for the configuration).

I have an x-Surf II too in an A4000T (the REAL one ;-), and it works the same :-D no problems at all with Miami Deluxe (registered).

I have an Ariadne I card in an A3000, no problems too, but that card is quite rare today ;-) BTW, the extra parallel port on it is usefull :-)

I have an Ariadne II too in an A2500, works great, but rare too now :-)

Go for the X-Surf II, it's a good card, in fact it's TWO good cards as it is a Zorro bus adaptator card with A1200 compatibles clockports and 26 pins extention port, coupled to a Kingston PeeCee ethernet card ;-) Very good built and reliable (at least here ;-)

Where can I obtain this card?
Is it still for sale? Or shall I look for second-hand ?

Well,
It sounds great that both xsurf and ariadne are working well even today.

For my previous reply I meant  "Algor+Norway combo" is it available for sale somewhere or rare status?
Thank you for your comments

Hi chris :-)

You beat me on this answer!

I've forgotten to mention the excellent Algor+Norway I have too in an A3000T !

as you said : it's an excellent product (you forget about excellent products as it works so flawlessly that it becomes transparent ;-))

As for buying it : go to http://www.e3b.de  :-D

I suppose it is still available at KDH, but stock is running out quickly.

Check here: http://www.kdh-amiga-shop.com/catalog/default.php?manufacturers_id=17

I'm not sure where you're from, so you could contact E3B about who's selling these cards at which countries...

I used to have an X-Surf I board for a few years, it worked okay (together with a HyperCom module), but I've exchanged it in favour to the above combo (the X-Surf-HyperCom sandwich was tricky to mount because it actually took three slots height on the ISA/video-slot side). No need for the HyperCom anymore as I can now connect my printer via USB (much faster) and don't have use for the serial ports anyway (thought there are also USB->serial adapters). And as I don't have any IDE-devices in my A4000T, the extra IDE ports on the X-Surf were used only on rare occasions when replacing a hd and copying from on disk to the other). And Norway is just sooooo tiny ;)

However, it really depends on your needs.

Isn't that the definition for an excellent product? :-)

But for sure Mr. Rat will come and tell us a story
