Floppy for A1200 ?
« on: April 30, 2004, 10:32:43 AM »
First off , hi !
It's good to know that the Amiga community is still alive and well.
I've been seduced to the dark side (micro$oft)for the last 9 years , I work with the blooming things.
I've just got hold of a 1200 with HD ,because I want to play with the music s/ware I used all those years ago (Music X and try to learn Bars and Pipes )
The machine seems to work fine but the floppy seems to be knacked.
Are floppies still available , or can I mod a PC floppy for DF0 ?
I do have an A500 in the loft somewhere , would the floppy from that fit/work in the 1200 ?
I'd like to keep the A500 in one peice if possible though.

Thanks for your time  :-)

Cheers ,
         Will

Hello!

GGS data in Sweden have internal floppy drives for sale. They cost about 33 Euro plus postage and packaging.

or mail the store owner directly at this address:

Hi

Have a look to the Aminet (http://ftp.uni-paderborn.de/aminet/dirs/hard_hack.html), there are several descriptions of how to patch a PC-floppy drive to work as Amiga floppy drive (internal or external).

The A500 floppy should fit from the cables and functionality, but I don't know if it fits physically into the A1200.

Thanks for the replies.
I've tried the A500 drive , but it's too tall.
I have managed to get the original drive working though  :-D
Right , next question , is it safe to format pc HD discs as DD on the Amiga ?
Will this lead to longterm problems ?

Cheers ,

They work - but dont count on it.

Data storage is not known to be reliable due to the difference in the data surface.

TBH - i wouldnt use em.
