Cyberstorm PPC repairs
« on: April 24, 2004, 10:54:18 PM »
Hi..

I have a broken CyberstormPPC 060, rendering my A4000 near useless. I'm going to go mad soon if I can't use my Amiga :(

Can anyone confirm who repairs CS-PPCs these days? I've got timdg@hyperion-entertainment.com from the news archive here, but messages sent from different accounts have produced no replies in 2-3 months! You'd think these people didn't want my money..

Otherwise, anyone selling a CS-PPC for about a hundred quid? :(

Well, www.amiga.fr seems to be getting a lot of attention, and I haven't heard anyone complain about them. It seems to me as the only place to repair Amiga-equipment ATM. DCE looks to have put themselves out of business.

Yeah, Amiga.fr are quick and Hyperion are still doing the fixed price repair, I think it's 140 Euro?

I just repaired a CSPPC board for a customer yesterday (replaced 060 socket) who did contact both Amiga.fr and Hyperion and received replies within 2-3 days.

That's something you can test yourself.  If you have no booting problems, a very common fault is the soldering on the 060's SMD socket.  Press down hard on top of the 060 while powering up the computer and see if it boots.  If so, it's usually just a matter of replacing the socket.

The soldering on some of those boards is horrendous.  DCE's SMD processes could do with some refining to say the least.

Jesus, 140 euros, you could buy an entire blizzard for that. For instance, I asked about repairing the sound on my A4000 motherboard and got a quote of 120 euros excluding shipping. I could buy 4 (or more) new A4000 boards for that price...
