songplayer 1.62 update...
« on: April 23, 2004, 02:11:02 PM »
Hum,
i noticed that songplayer (looks like a nice bit of software) has had an update to version 1.62...
The CPU consumption is now back to a low level, and the program features improved mp3 support (but still no ogg-vorbis at the moment)

On my A4000T CyberstormPPC 060@66Mhz/604@233, the new version (using warpup mepga libmad library) uses around 50% of the 68060 CPU time (according to the Amigaload CPUload function) when decoding a 192kbps MP3.

Still a bit to high for me, but in the average of the other MP3 players on Amiga using the same library.

I wish there was hardware decoding in SongPlayer. I've grown quite accustomed to near-zero CPU load decoding with my Delfina.

Hi Topaz,

CSPPC233+060@50 P5

less than 10% on 060 and 18-20% PPC side.

Same mpega WOS libmad library,

powerpc.library     111252 ----rwed 20-Apr-01
68060.library       103636 ----rwed 19-Ott-99
mpega.library       104540 ----rwed 24-Giu-02

Note that i'm using the powerpc.library 16.1beta1 that IMHO, it is more reliable than the newer 16.1.

Ciao

EDIT- i'm using AHI 4.180 with a RepulseGold card.

AHI 5.xx, eats more CPU power.

@Framiga

What tool are you using to measure the CPU load ? Is there a tool to measure the specific CPU load of a specific task and a tool to measure the PowerPC load ?

I use the 68060.library 161 988 v46.15 (05/10/2001) and ahi.device 4.180.
I've checked my system and upgraded the powerpc.library from 16.0 to 16.1beta1.
Nothing change, i'm still around 50% of CPU load when using Songplayer.

I have also a Delfina Lite but, Songplayer isn't able to use it.

Also, when no application is running, my 68060 seems occupied at around 20% of load, which seems to be weird...

For WOS you may use the idlewos utility, as for the 68k tasks, SCOUT works fine (% of CPU usage for each task).
