Got my new Graphics Card Radeon 8500... (Not for Miggy tho)
« on: January 10, 2003, 01:45:56 AM »
This card is GREAT!

However when the screen is full of enemies on Deus Ex (OS 9 G4 450Mhz) it still has some slowdown (with everything’s detail switched to high anyway), I've altered the amount of memory allocated to the game. It runs one helluva lot smother than it did before though.

The graphical improvements in Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix (on OS X G4 450Mhz) are fantastic, but the game is only just about playable and it crawls when a shed load of troops rush you.

Maybe my processor is just out dated and I need a new computer (out of the question 'till I get myself a job, been scratching through the local rag) or maybe the latest drivers might improve the situation, or I can always turn the model detail down, but the whole point of getting this card was to make things prettier and faster.

Seems you can have things extremely pretty and slow, or slightly less pretty and faster. I thought after this upgrade I could have my cake and eat it, (a stupid saying, cos we've all eaten cake at some point in our lives) but it seems this is not the case.

Can anyone give me some clue as to how I get the best out of my new card, bar the things I've mentioned?

If not I'll just sit here for 12 hours in the vain hope that the new driver's will download on my unstable 56k modem (I want broadband damn it, and yes I've registered my interest with British Telecom.)

Time to get a top of the range Pea Sea to swim in me thinks...

@Antonio

Thanx Dude!

You can find it here:

About 10.2 Meg

I did download an update a while back for OS X about 10.x Meg but I was up all night checking on it to see if it had finished every so often. A hideous prospect.  Fortunately a guy called Nick came to my rescue in the same manner as you. I sent him my patented Cheezy Choons Collection (not much of a payment when you can download most of them free) I was at number 65 last time I checked Electronic/Dance on Mp3.au.com.

These days you could turn it into a service/business.
