strange cards in a2000
« on: April 19, 2004, 07:46:23 PM »
I just got two A2000s from ebay. The guy lived like 5 miles from me so I drove over and picked them up. Got an a2088 bridgecard, two Toaster 2000s, bunch of games, HDs, etc. One of the boxes has a funny little card in it. It looks like a part of a circuit board cut into a 2"x6" board with "Front" and "Back" on it...left edge as seen from front is cut at angles and notches. The card is set into a slot next to the CPU 68000 looks like oh maybe 50 little jumper thingys on it in a row and a wire runs to the rear of the box with a toggle switch on it. A faint "2093" is on the top of the card. This is a box with a Toaster in it if that means anything, but not the bridgecard. Duh. What is this? The copywrite on the motherboard says 1988 but I can't yet see a revision number. :-?

Does it look anything like this?
A2000 card
The "Front" "Back" notes made me open my old A2000. Matter of fact, my first ever Amiga. I remember when I "upgraded" with a larger <250mg> HD and the Turbo28 and 4 more megs for the SupraRam. Wo0p!

YES!! That's the bugger! Never saw one before...what's it do? This is a very interesting little machine in some respects. The previous owner(s) had some very odd ideas as to directory trees. Like installing games in the Expansion drawer, or reinstalling a program into a copy of the program directory inside a copy of the program directory...etc until you reach the program. Sheesh. Can anyone tell me if having a "Fat Lady" is significant in some way, or if any of the accelerators I have left over from my A4000 can somehow be used in the A2000? :-P

The Supra Turbo28 is an accelerator for the 68000 that boosts the processor speed to 28mhz. The switch is to change between 7 and 28mhz.

As far as using A4000 accelerators in the A2000, nope. Different type of slot between the two models.

I believe "Fat Lady" is the socket for the Agnus chip ram.
