Worried about my cat
« on: April 17, 2004, 01:41:22 AM »
My cat loves a certain brand of dry cat biscuits. When they're put out, she'll eat them ravenously. Give her anything else, and she'll look bored and eat nothing at all, even going hungry a full day - or until we put out her favourite food.

And I'm worried, because eating the same thing all the time can't be good for any animal, even if the dried food she likes has (or at least the manufacturer claims it has) all the vitamins and minerals a cat needs. Human beings can't possibly know everything a cat needs when they're not even sure what they themselves need.

I've almost convinced myself that the manufacturer has put something in this food to make it irresistable to cats in the way catnip and human earwax (eow) are, and that my cat doesn't just like them, she's addicted to them (to sell more biscuits, obviously).

I'm worried about the long term health of my cat. Cats are usually very fussy about what they eat, but is it usual for them only to accept one brand of food and not ever eat anything else?

Hum,
not unusual...

Perhaps it`s the smell of kangaroo?

you could always add a `hint` of another type of food...
And gradually increase the amount.

But if the cat isn`t bothered , then don`t worry... :-)

A friend of mine's cat exhibited this sort of behavior once, but she lived to be 19 "human years" old.  If they get hungry they will eat I suppose.  Cats are smart enough to separate a mixture of two kinds of food.. you may be surprised lol

Kangaroo is an excellent quality meat.  We often eat it. Mind you it is prepared for human consumption... not pussy tats.  It is very lean with little fat. Tastes good!

Generally cats are selfish in nature and will do whatever they want and dogs are the opposite ( as someone already noted ).

Grab kitty by the scruff of neck and toss outside. It will find some food, no problem.

In Oz many cats have gone ferrile and people go around shooting them.  They are said to murder many endangered birds and small marsupials.   However, recent research disputes this.  Selfish spoiled critters!!!!

Get a dog.      and a Mac.  [I have 1 Amstrad, ! Amega, 2 Macs]

We gave her other food to try and she knocked it over and turned her dish upside down, scattering it everywhere. There's a message there, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Not my fathers old dog.

'Jake "the Snake" (the dog)' would eat 'PAL' canned dog food, until my fathers other dog died (they would both eat it). When that happpened Jake stopped eating that particular brand of dog food. However, he would eat most others!

My father just started to cook nice chops from the supermarket for him. He loved those, however he would try to pick them up while they were still hot, and he would sit there and wait for them to cool down before he started to eat them. :)

Sounds not good. I would suggest that the manuafactures have probably packed the food full of sugar, given the poor thing a massive sugar hit when it eats that food. The best thing you can do if ween it oof with some fish. and then introduce other types of food.
