Hiya Guys,

I have been lucky enough to be given an Amiga 600 and a coulour monitor to match Yippie! Smart Freebie.

We used to have a 500+ a few years ago but that was only ever used for gaming.

Now I have a question, I have Windows XP Pro on my home PC and have TrasnWrite wordprocessing for the Amiga. (Transwrite claims to be able to export documents to wordperfect format ). I have got that sussed no problem. Now what I want to know is wether there is any way of transferring this wordperfect document to my PC?

Or is it the scenario where I'll only be able to do this with a seriel cable?

What it is I'm trying to achive is basically a system where I can type my text downstairs and save it and print it out upstairs on my PC. I'm a student you see and I'm getting sick of running up and downstairs everytime I need to type something!

Any help at all will be much appreciated!

Thanks

Shel

Shouldn't be a problem.

Format a 720k disk in your PC on the A600 using Cross-DOS. Save your transwrite file onto the floppy and carry it upstairs when needed.

Make sure you format the disk as 720k as the Amiga 600 won't accept HighDensity floppies.

Or, you could run a very long serial or parrelel cable and link the 2 computers together, but that's probably more expense/effort than is needed.

Back up important stuff regularly as modern floppies are rubbish.

Hiya YooDoo, Thanks for the swift reply. I don't know wether I have CrossDOS or not, I have workbench 2.04 with the extras and fonts disk but cant seem to find CrossDOS. I know I can probably download it from the internet as a lha file but then I'm not sure how to get it from the PC and onto the amiga :-?  ( I told you I was a bit rusty )

Many Thanks for taking your time to help out!

I've worked out how to format a disk in XP but when I follow the instructions given by Kronos

Quote

Goto the "storage"-drawer on your workbench, open "dosdrivers", and doubleclick "PC0". Might need a diskchange, but after that it should regognize the disk, with whatever name Win assigned to it.

You can now safely ignore the DF0:???, and drop files into the other one.

If you want to have it activated on every boot, you must move "PC0" to the "dosdrivers"-drawer inside the "devs"-drawer on your workbench.

I can't find storage and dosdrivers on the workbench. I'm using workbench 2.04, is it still possible to read 720k floppies using this version?  :-? Just when I thought I had an idea what I was doing........

i could...

of course, you can consider making a network...

then you can even "give" the amiga a printer (share the pc one) and only hvae to collect the things from upstairs...

emm, you sure you're viewing all the folders instead of just icons?  :-)

Hello,

Workbench 2.04/2.05 does not have Crossdos! V2.1 and above does.

Goto Aminet (www.aminet.net) and download Messydos;
 msh-156.lha  misc/emu  271K  380  Messydos File System 1.56 - read/write pc floppies

The trick part now is getting the file from your PC to your Amiga. You need a serial Null Modem cable to do this.
Here is the procuedure.

1)On the PC load Hyperterminal, set the Baud rate to 19200 BPS, 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and RTS/CTS handshaking.
2) On the Amiga Open a shell
3) Open the Preferences folder and click the serial preferences. Set the preferences to:
Baud Rate: 19200
Input Buffer Size: 4096
Handshaking: RTS/CTS
Parity: None
Bits/Char: 8
Stop Bits: 1
Save the settings.
4) In the Shell window enter
Type SER: to Ram:Messy.lha

You actually have to type Type!
5) In Windows Hyperterminal Select Transfer->Send Text File
Select the Messydos archive and click OK.

That should do it.
When the transfer finishes you need to CTRL-C the shell command (on the Amiga).

It has been a while since I did this last.

Hope this helps.

Ian

I think fat95 might be a little better than MessyDos now. It's quite a bit more up to date.

Would it be possible to use the parallel port on Hyperterminal?
I have a Null Modem Cable but it is a 25-Pin to 25-Pin cross over.
If Hyperterminal is no good is there any other way i could setup an initial connection via the Amiga shell through my cable.  :-)
