www.vesalia.de, or amiga shops in common?
« on: April 15, 2004, 03:15:03 PM »
I ordered some stuff from Vesalia last weekend, and am  currently waiting for some confirmation e-mail to get back at me, so I can send them the payment. It's been 4-5 days now, and no answer yet. Looks like this is normal for Amiga-shops ATM, and it somewhat irritates me as a customer to not even reply and tell me my order is being worked on... or what do you think?

I heard someone mention a while ago that the person behind Vesalia had personal issues, so I'm not exactly raging,  :-) , but I still think of it as a strange way to do business.

Well it is the week after Easter, which is often used for holidays here in Germany.
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

Hi Morley,
I think you mean, "...or Amiga shops in general?"

This is something others have complained about in the past - it took me well over a month to get some ROMS for my A4000 from Power Computing here in the UK.

I suspect that the suppliers *do* know that they don't have much competition and exploit this, but also there's the fact that many Amiga shops are probably small operations run by one or two people, often enthusiasts themselves, and so we shouldn't expect lightning delivery...

I dunno, anyone else got any thoughts?
I like Amigas

Ok. That was the sort of reason I was hoping for :-). Could have given out the info that they were on holiday though...like customer relations in my opinion should be like. I hate waiting for somehing that takes some seconds to send out..like a response.

I don't know much about non-US shops, but the times I have ordered from Compuquick and Software Hut they have been pretty responsive. It's been a few years since I've ordered from them but I have no reason to believe anything has changed.

Also I know my company is very responsive.

We are new so our inventory is limited, but we are growing. :-)  We always respond promptly, at least we strive to.

I've purchased from Power Computing, Eyetech, KDH Datentechnik, Haage & Partner, and anoher one in the UK I can't remember (but it has an "A" in it somewhere)

Anyway, Eyetech were fantastic - gave me lots of advice, both by telephone and email, sent me wiring diagrams to help, even helped me sort out a problem with an Eyetech tower I had bought second hand on Ebay, and everything I have ordered from them arrived very quickly.

Unfortunately, they no longer sell Amiga hardware now (I think they do have some stock remaining though, but they're concentrating on selling PPC boards).

The next best was KDH Datentechnik - they took back a dodgy G-Rex board I'd purchased from them and let me use the money towards a mediator + mirage tower, which arrived very quickly (4 or 5 days iirc).

Power computing just gave me the general impression that they "Couldn't be arsed" any more with Amiga customers.  Never replied to emails, took ages to answer the phone and when they did weren't of any help.

Hmm...I have to correct myself a little bit. I did actually order some HW from Software Hut earlier this week, and they replied within 3-4 hours that they were out of stock, and the were no longer available. Very good, although an updated webpage would be even better :-)

I have the impression that most shops stocking Amiga-products are only run as complete side-businesses, with almost no stock at all. Certainly stocks can't be blamed for the community being small, but not being responsive is never an excuse. I ordered a copy of OS3.9 eight weeks ago from a norwegian amiga-specialized webshop, still no word from them or any goods, even though I have already paid for the product. Next time I'll take the hassle of ordering international if I can get it quicker elsewhere!

Analogic, maybe? They used to advertise in Amiga Format quite a bit.

Power Computing is a bunch of thieves.  They charged my credit card $50 and never sent my item.  Repeated emails and calls were never returnednothing.  And, my credit card company said it had been to long to file a claim.

Avoid at all costs.  And, if someone is local, throw a brick through the window for me.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

I was on tuesday in Hamminkeln at Vesalia, the shop is well and alive:-) Indeed, good-friday and easter-monday are holidays in Germany. And Mr. Does is alone this week, his technician and "webmaster" is on holiday this week. So don't worry if you have to wait some days. Mr Does is a very busy man. :-)
/* commercial start */
If you have sat-tv, don't miss this saturday "Neues" on the german channel 3SAT. There you will see an AmigaOne, configured by Vesalia in a special about OS4.
/* commercial off */

@DrZarkov

Thanks for the input, although I already figured out the vacation bit. I'm not worried about fraud or something like that, it just that I find it strange that the shops seems to neglect it's buyers like we see today. I'm not blaming vesalia right now, but it's my impression that a lot of shops out there promise more than they can achieve. How they can afford to that in such a little community puzzles me, it looks like some are more interrested in getting out of Amiga-business than keeping it alive. Sad.
