Emulated MacOS and TCP/IP
« on: April 14, 2004, 02:29:43 AM »
Im slowly going mad here...

I need to emulate a mac environment and I need Ethernet TCP/IP networking so I can install OS8.6 on my CD-Rom-less laptop...

Now I have OS7.5.5 installed under shapeshifter but no matter what I cant seem to get TCP/IP working with ethernet...

Ive tried MacTCP, Open Transport, direct sanna-II emulation and through vlink.device with no luck...

So any help much appreciated...

did you disable the tcp/ip stack on the amiga side?

from the guide:

" - When using MacTCP, neither AmiTCP nor Envoy may run concurrently on the
   Amiga side on the same Ethernet card."

What computer are you tring to run the Mac emulation on?  If it's a Windows OS, you need to add a protocol to Windows to allow the TCP/IP access to the emulation.

@jhogs

Yeah of course I made sure there was no TCp?IP stack running, Ive read every FAQ I could find and it still wasnt working...

However, after going against what one FAQ said I switched to using Open Transport and setup vlink and now it works, although painfully slow...

I think the confusion was the mention of installing on a "laptop".  I would have asked the same question.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

What network card and driver are you using on the Amiga? Both cnet.device and 3c589.device have a hack in them that adds four bytes to the reported length of packets. This is apparently needed for Shapeshifter and Fusion compatibility. If you're using a different card/driver, perhaps it doesn't allow for this.
