Amiga 2000, just the box but with two floppy drives.

DPaint lll
Word Perfect

I still have it. I added memory (8UP)
accellerators - i think it's got a Dillinger 030

it used to have a supraDrive, but that died at some point. i forget what's in there now controlling the HD.

added DCTV
oh, and a Studio16 (mono) card.

my other 2000 has the Magnum 040 and an OpalCard. but i stipped using that after I got a spectrum card.
that HD died and i haven't had time or money to replace it.
someday.

I got my first one way back in 1986. It was a demo model of the A1000 that I got a few hundred off for taking it! It still looked new to me though. My first app was a game. Defender of the Crown. I loved that came. I kept that system for a long time too. I then got a A3000 in 1991 and Just got rid of it this month and Picked up a Pegasos II with a G4 in it. Very nice system too!

I got my first Amiga about 18 months ago. Someone gave me an A600 with no PSU, no mouse and a dead floppy drive. I decided to try and do something with it. Everyone soon told me not to bother so I bought a 1200 and it's now most of the way on to being a tower system (I'm STILL waiting for the tower and k/b adapter!). I'm slowly learning Amiga OS and all the various nuances after a life of PCs and Macs.

Yup. It was an A500. I upgraded from a C64. :=). I still got both, though neither works. I'm in the process of diagnosing the A500 to see if I'm able to fix it. I can't seem to find out what's wrong with the C64 (blank screen on boot), but I've got several working ones so it's not a big deal. I got several working A500s too :)

As for the date, it was in the spring of 1987. Great spring :) I spent literally hours "talking" with my Amiga through the speech program, so I guess you could call that the first program I used. I didn't actually talk to it, but rather tried to teach it how speak norwegian properly.

I bought the *incredibly expensive* 512Kb memory module after buying Dungeon Master and not getting it to work. God I played that game to death. I still love getting into it :=)

Ahhh.. sweet, sweet memories.

My first Amiga was an amazing Amiga 500. I bought it back in late 1989, early 1990. This was just prior to starting college to study computing. I had been working on a `work placement` at the company I otherwise only worked  weekends at, full time for a few weeks, and earned just enough to splash out on a nice new computer. I didn't have any computers before that except a second hand ZX Spectrum 16 which had been expanded to 48k. We occasionally borrowed my uncles Amstrad CPC464 which had a few fun games on it.

While some other people thought I should've bought a leather jacket or whatever, the Amiga was certainly an amazingly cool thing to get. It seemed almost mystical as being one of the only systems with a mouse at the time, back when computer mice were not at all commonplace. I thought it was amazing alone just because it had a mouse. But what sold me on the Amiga? I very almost would've bought an Atari. But, upon seeing an ad in a very early Amiga magazine, I saw paint programs running on both the Amiga and the Atari. Even though the Atari was.. ooh, 300 uk pounds at the time, the Amiga was 400 uk pounds, looking at the Amiga screenshot I just couldn't help but be thoroughly enthused, especially with how the Amiga was described and what this paint program could do.. ... Of course, it was Deluxe Paint. At the time, that was version 2, and it looked so amazing, it is what sold me rather than opting for *any* other platform including pc or mac.

So I bought an Amiga 500, it had 1/2 meg chipmem. I later got a 1/2 meg upgrade and then later a 1 1/2 meg upgrade. I couldn't afford anything more back then because memory expansions were super-amazing peripherals costing hundreds of dollars. The Amiga and me, it was meant to be. My dad couldn't understand how a whole computer could be fitted inside a small little wedge shape like that... and he had seen a lot of electronics in his time since that was his line of work. If I remember rightly, silly me, I switched the Amiga on, and off, at the power supply, in quick succession, in my first attempt to reboot it having screwed something up... and the power supply blew! lol .. well, oh well, a week or two of frustrated waiting later and I was in heaven again. So began the Amiga years, a time of wonderful creativity and fun.

Oh.. my first program? hmm.... Must've been workbench 1.3 of course, but beyond that it was the Deluxe Paint 2 that came with the computer. That was so cool! Also there were some games that came with it as part of the Amiga Magick pack. I LOVED datastorm, but there were also others like wizkid, tower of babel, and a bunch of others I cant remember the names of.

My first coverdisk was probably Amiga Computing coverdisk that had Med 1.3 on it (the music app)... and an executable version of a cool tune that I kept forever. I think Med was another of my earliest apps.

1989.  I got an Amiga A500 and 1084S.  I can't remember what the pack was called but it came with KindWords, Indy Jones, and a few others.  Around 91 or 92 I considered upgrading it with a GVP 530.  But, decided to buy an A3000 which was about the same price ~$1300.  Best choice I ever made!  Eventually I upgraded the A500 with a MTec-020i (w/4M), Dataflyer 240MB SCSI HD, ROM switcher, etc.  It was a nice system and worked great until I parted it out about 5 years ago.

Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

First heard about the Hi-Torro Lorraine in 1983. Read all about it in 1984 from the Winter CES Report in Compute! magazine. Much drool commenced.

July 1985 got my first AmigaWorld Magazine. Dreams became really colorful.

October 1985 - Dreams become reality:

A1000 with A1080 monitor & A1010 external floppy
Came with Kick/WB .9x (can't remember exactly)
Textcraft
Graphicraft
ABasiC
Mindscape Demo
The Boing Demo
The futuristic City Demo

The OS, Textcraft and Graphicraft were extremely buggy, and there was not much RAM left to do anything. The Boing demo blew me away, and the City demo's display was weird, and if you moved the mouse too much, the demo would slow to a crawl.

A week later, got another identical system, but also got:

Extra 256K for both machines
Deluxe Paint 1.0

By November 1985, upgraded both to Kickstart/Workbench 1.0. Huge performance increase, along with stability, but still quite a few crashes.

In January/Febuary 1986 (can't remember) got Kick/WB 1.1, and my first copy of Amazing Computing Magazine.

I have never looked back since...

Other notable events:

Met Jim Butterfield, Dale Luck, RJ Mical, all of NewTek, et al. at various USA west coast Amiga shows.

August 1987 helped in the creation of Sistemas Delta in Costa Rica, a software development house / computer store. (search for various C and Basic programs), and helped develop R.U.M.S. (Rental Unit Management System - hotel management software).

In September 1992 met Jay Miner at the unveiling of the A4000 and A1200 in Pasadena CA. GRHS.

In 1998 got Boing Ball logos and Amiga stickers from Petro mailed to me (at his cost).

I now have two A1000's, one A500, one A2000 (w/VideoToaster 2.0), three A3000's and one A4000 (w/VideoToaster Flyer).

Awaiting for release of OS4 and cash for AmigaOne G4.

In 1987, I got a C=64 for my birthday present :-D.  Then I sold it(regretfully :-( , and missed it too)in 1994 and got me an A600 from a friend dear to me. Used it for 2 days. and ask if I could replace it with an A500+. I still have my A500 with me. After a year bought an external drive from a friend and still alive and kicking, although at times I need to press the IC in its socket to boot, gets loose at times. BTW: when I returned the A600, the owner(with Jay Miner now in Amiga Heaven ) told me to keep the ROM 2! WOW!  :-o To my surprise it worked on the A500. and the A600, well he slipped in a ROM 1.3. It worked too. :-o  Though the enhancements(PCMCIA&HDD) never work but it boots fine on a floppy and is able to play old games he owns. He used to own a retal shop full of PC, but he kept an A1200 under a desk. I worked there for the whole summer vacation to pay for the A500 and some mags. He made me drool like hell when he showed me his brand new and smells new A1200. He told me I should read mags on Amiga stuff. I was introduced to AMIGA WORLD:angel:, bought a few issues, but subscribed to AMAZING Computing/Amazing Amiga  Hope I don't made you all cry but that's life. or after life

Hmmmmmm, musta been about 1986 or so.  Heard about this fantastic new computer that could do things no other could, the Amiga 1000.  Bought it with the 256k ram expansion, external disk drive, Okimate 20 color printer, and the 1084 color monitor.  All for the bargain price of about $2200.00 USD.  Would you believe I still have it and it still works?  Wouldn't part with any of it.
