WinUAE & SFS, How?

Hi, all!

Is someone out there who has experiences with
WinUAE 0.8.25 using SFS (1.214)? I'm trying to
migrate my whole system from A4000 to a Windows2000
machine. There are two important partitions on
the harddrive I'm using: One with AmigaOS3.9 on
it, and the other with applications and data. The
latter is SFS formatted and has many files with
long filenames on it, so I don't want to change
it back to FFS type. I was told that it IS possible
to use SFS with WinUAE, but whenever my system
boots up under WinUAE, an error requester pops
up saying "Not a dos disk in device HD2". This
is coming at the point when some assigns in
s:startup-sequence are pointing at the requested
partition (HD2). It seems that setpatch doesn't
insert HD2?!? How can I make sure that to be done?

Yes, me! I've converted real 2.5" hard disks from FFS to SFS 1.214 using WinUAE 0.8.25 and the version of HDToolBox which comes with OS3.9 (BB2 if that makes any difference).

Is SFS installed in the RDB of the hard disk? Or is it just installed in the Devs: directory of the AmigaOS3.9 partition?

SFS is installed in the RDB. But why should it be in
Devs: ? I have SmartFilesystem in L: Shouldn't it be
there???

The Actual SmartFileSystem file is only needed if you are intending on formatting drives to SFS. It isn't needed for drives already running SFS as it is stored in the RDB of those drives. The file would be in L:, not DEVS:.

SetPatch ? This has nothing to do with it. Make sure that SmartFileSystem is installed in the RDB (in the Add/Update section of HDToolbox).

There is not a single situation when SFS is needed in L or Devs or wherever once it is installed in the RDB of one of your HDDs.

If the HDD is larger than 4GB, make sure to use the lastest WinUAE version. >4GB suppport was added sometimes, so not all versions of WinUAE support it.

If you cannot figure it out, please run the CheckHD program out of the Check4GB archive and post the results here.
