My favourite windoze editors are:

Good old PFE - For it's template and macro functions more than anything.

And Crimson Editor which supports loads of languages and ftp file access.

They are both free!

In linux I mostly use Kate, because it's simple.  VI gives me a headache.

And on the Amiga I use notepad, Ed and Amos.  I also had a simple word processor which I did alot of text editing in, but I forget what that is called.

UltraEdit32 on windows machines is great. Definitly an editor worth buying.

CygnusED is what I use on my A1200's if I don't use ED.  :-D

TextPad on Win-DOHS.  GoldED on AmigaOS.

I regularly use GoldED 6; I think it's a great editor for almost everything. It supports lots of languages and development environments with syntax colouring, syntax checking, etc. It's completely configurable and file-type aware with extensive Arexx support. It's really stable and fast on Amiga with graphic card.
Btw, now it supports real tabs (you can choose if use them or not).
There are only 3 things that you must consider:
1) it has a non standard interface; someone hates it because of it  :-) , but I think it works very well all the same
2) author has stopped development (but I don't know if there are other active editor projects around anymore)
3) it's big, so one may prefer a smaller program if he doesn't need all the goods GoldED brings

I´ve tried GoldED, but I dislike the insertion of spaces instead of tabs.

GoldED has had regular TABs for many years. You've either unearthed a version form the stone ages (like GoldED 4, late 20th century) or not found your way to the TAB configuration dialog to reconfigure tabs from the default setting, which is inserting spaces, to inserting tabs.

All right, I guess I'm the heathen here.  I'm pleasantly surprised with EditPad.  No, it's not full of bells-and-whistles, but it gets me there.  Better than ED.

Okay, I'll go back into my corner now.  You can all just ignore me.

Memacs is cool, with the advantage that it's kinda like the Unix version...

Hi,

My favorites:

on Amiga: Vim
on Windows: Vim
on Linux: Vim

And yes, this is true.
Start flaming :-)

For programming (mostly Java) under Windows I use Emacs with JDE (Java Development Environment) installed. So far I haven't found a better editor. Tried UltraEdit for a while but found it to be (IMO) far inferior. Haven't tried the latest verisons though, something I'll do next week I think.
