Graphics card memory
« on: March 28, 2004, 06:24:27 PM »
I seen an article a couple of years back about taking memory from a graphics card and utilising it for the Amiga system.

Like as in example:-
If the graphics card had letts say 8 meg of memory a software program would take about 4 to turn it into I presume Fastram.

Is there such a program still around?

I have 32 meg Fastram myself on an Apollo 030 Turbo Mk-II card, my graphics card is a Voodoo 4 32meg.  I dont have any problems with my 32 meg of Fastram but it would be interesting all the same to know if any could be used from the Voodoo?
(Cant use any at the moment I am waiting for the Z4 Tower from Eyetech before I can even put my Mediator in.)
TIA,

Mike....

@swift240

No.

1) Mediator bank switching makes it impossible (afaik, correct me if I am wrong).
2) Even if it was possible, the memory would be about as slow as chipmem.

Some Zorro III gfxcards had this possibility, but the memory would still be slower than memory on the botherboard or CPUCard.

OK, thanks for that, it was more of interest than any thing else.
